Commodore Bob Ashman and General Manager Edward Yow
receiving The Boat Asia Award on behalf of Changi Sailing Club
On 20 April 2007 Changi Sailing Club was awarded the Boat Asia Award at the Boat Asia Exclusive Night. These awards aim to recognise individuals as well as organisations that have contributed significantly to the boating and watersports scene in Singapore over the recent years.
Changi Sailing Club (CSC) was presented with the award in honour of its steadfast and continued support of the Sailability Programme, to which it has been the home since April 2000. Sailability Singapore is about sailing for the disabled community and is run by the Singapore Disability Sports Council, with volunteers and sponsorship from various organisations. Sailing programmes are conducted every Sunday from 9:30am to 1:00pm. For more information on Sailability Singapore, visit http://www.sailabilitysingapore.org
The 2 boats used in the Sailability programme are the 2.3 Access Dinghy and the 2.4mR. CSC is in the process of acquiring another 9 training boats, with the intention of growing the fleet to 20 boats in 12 months’ time. You can’t miss them on the water with their bubbly appearance and colourful bottoms! The Sailability sailors are such a passionate and dedicated lot, infact one suspects they’re vying with the Cat sailors for the “most active fleet” award. Now, if only we could infuse the same kind of enthusiasm and commitment in the rest of the Dinghy sailors at CSC!
