CSC@Besar Regatta 2018 – Passage Race

The 5th edition of CSC@Besar Regatta commenced with the iconic night passage race up the eastern coast of malaysia to Pulau Babi Besar. This year we see a mix of new and old in the entry list – as we welcome first-timers Invictus, Minx, Sangaree and Bayu Sayang on their maiden night passage to Besar.

Despite the small fleet of 7 Keelboats racing up due to a few boats making their way up early for some cruising around the surrounding islands, there was some close competition amidst the challenging conditions. The first leg to Lima Channel after the start took extra long, with lead boat Zanzibar taking a whole 4 hours! Their eventual finish time was 04:29:11, sufficient to clinch line honours comfortably. However, it was not enough to defend their IRC title, succumbing to the rest of the IRC fleet, of which debutants Invictus emerged victorious. Naya once again came close to being champions, only to miss out by a mere 4 minutes.

In the PY class, it was a three-way battle of newbies as Minx, Sangaree and Bayu Sayang race overnight for the first time. Minx was the surprise package of the trio, sailing really well to even beat Shardana (IRC Class) across the finish line by a comfortable margin. Minx takes the Passage Race PY Title comfortably, with Sangaree in a distant 2nd. Special commendations to Bayu Sayang for completing the entire race with only 2 up! Sisters Esther and Siew Ju sailed well to finish not too far behind despite their crew disadvantage.

Apart from the racing, good to see familiar faces and new friends at the Aseania Bar after a long night of sailing. We are looking forward to the next 3 days of the Pulau Besar Series Racing! Enjoy the photos and stay on this site for more updates.
