CSC Optimist Championships Gold Fleet – Day 1

Having concluded the Silver Fleet Championships last week with 9 races in decent weather, sailors and organisers were optimistic when commencing the Gold Fleet Championships this morning. A steady west-northwesterly breeze settled in early for Race 1, taking sailors on a course in an unfamiliar direction. The joy was short-lived as a storm swept through the race course in the early afternoon, only allowing for 2 races to be completed.

At the end of Day 1, 2017 Defending Champion Muhammad Raihan Bin Mohd Airudin sits in top spot with 10 points, but will be kept on his toes for the coming races due to the slim margin between him and the runner-ups. Kenan Tan trails behind by only 3 points, and Theodore Lau by another 2 to round up the top 3. Flying the CSC Flag high, last year’s Silver Fleet Champion Antonin Radue is currently placed 6th, a good result since his promotion to Gold Fleet.

The heavy rain sent sailors back for an early rest – we look forward to more winds and more races tomorrow!
