Sunday Series III 2019 Finale

The winds continued to blow strong from the NE, prompting an atypical course to end the series. The Race Committee decided on a pennant 6 course, taking sailors around Pulau Ubin and back to the Club for a nice afternoon passage race in champagne sailing conditions.

Waka Tere sailed well once again, right after their victory in the Twilight Series – scoring a bullet on corrected time against close rivals Red Rum and Invictus. Despite taking line honours, Red Rum had to settle for 3rd place after handicap, seperated by 39 seconds on handicap. For the overall Series, Waka Tere took the win as well, tying points with Invictus but winning because of their victory in today’s race. Born in Fire completes the Sunday Series III podium in 3rd, 1 point behind.

In the PY Class, it was a close fight between Minx and Southern Light, with the latter scoring line honours but losing out on handicap, handing the bullet for Race 5 to Lucas and Crew. Balqis completes the podium in 3rd. Despite winning race 5, poor attendance throughout the series meant Minx was left out of contention, and Southern Light won it convincingly 3 points ahead of Sapphire Star. Olmeto and Brio tied for 3rd, with the former’s bullet in Race 4 being the tie-breaker. Southern Light made it a clean sweep in the Overall Leaderboard, fresh from their victory in the Twilight Series for 2019. Having won Series I and Series III, they finished with 5 points after 3 Series, earning them a well-deserved double in the PY Class.

New sails gave Kaze a new lease of life, looking strong on the initial beat up to the North-Eastern corner of Pulau Ubin. However, superior boat speed from Buay Kaola helped them overtake Kaze and awarded them with line honours and the win for Race 5. Cicak completed the podium in 3rd, a result which surrendered their Series III victory to Buay Kaola, who scored 3 bullets and 8 points from 4 races, 1 point ahead of Cicak. Despite not sailing in Race 5, Miss Visayan‘s consistent performance and attendance rewarded them with a 3rd in Series III. For the overall Sunday Series 2019 leaderboard, Cicak tops the fleet with a 2nd in Series I, 1st in Series II and 2nd in Series III.

The Beach Catamarans were a no-show for today’s race, but we will acknowledge the attendance and superb performance from Jeremy Nixon on Bad Influence, winning both Series II & III to etch his name on the Sunday Series Challenge Trophy as the 2019 Beach Catamaran Champion.

Congratulations to all the winners, please see below for results and photos. Thank you and see you all for the New Year’s Eve Celebrations at CSC!
