CSC Laser Open – Day 2

Day 2 of the CSC Laser Open saw many more capsizes, as the sea foamed with the relentless North-East Monsoon Winds.

It was not all heavy winds, with the Laser Standards starting Race 5 in a moderate 8 to 10 knot breeze, favourable conditions for the smaller sailors. Stanley drew first blood, scoring the bullet to gain an advantage over close rival Elliot Drake. His joy was short-lived, with the winds picking up in Race 6 and 7, and eventually succumbing to an overpowered rig. Elliot thrived in the heavier airs, scoring 2 victories in races 6 and 7 to seal the win in the Laser Standard Class. Alexey Filimonov completed the podium in 3rd.

Lee Wonn Kye continues to dominate the Radial Class, finishing the regatta with a total of 6 bullets from 7 races. 2nd-placed Jonathan Lio collected the remaining win in race 5, completing the series in 2nd place. Riane Lee was the best performing girl, placing consistently in the top 5 to be awarded with a 3rd overall.

The most competitive class in this regatta saw Darius Lee shine in the remaining 3 races, scoring 2 bullets and a second place in Race 7 to win the 4.7 class. His nearest rival Dylan Fang consolidated this regatta with a 3 podium finishes today, eventually taking 2nd overall on 10 points. In 3rd, Kyle Lim performed sufficiently to stay 4 points ahead of the next competitor in the final results.

It was great to see sailors of all ages enjoying Laser racing, with the youngest being only 12 and the oldest at 67! We look forward to conducting this regatta again next year, hopefully with a bigger fleet.

Thank you everyone for the support and participation in our first CSC Laser Open! Big thank you to Wee Lee for officiating as Jury and NSC for providing logistical support for the event.
