CSC ILCA & Topper Monsoon Regatta 2022 (Day 2)
Day 2 of the Regatta did not live up to the hype from Day 1, as scattered thunderstorms wrecked havoc and destabilized traditional wind patterns. Having to deal with winds swinging to the west, dropping to dead calm and a strengthening outgoing tide, race officials and sailors were certainly tested on the final day of racing.
Russel Yom continues his fine run in the ILCA 4 Class, albeit with blemishes in Races 4 & 5. He finished strongly with a bullet in Race 6, ending the series 9 points ahead of 2nd placed Joshua Cheong. Isaac Goh completed the podium in 3rd just 1 point behind. Initially in the top 5, CSC’s Meghan Tan slipped to 7th after a shaky showing on Day 2. she tied points with 5th placed Muhd Raihan but lost on tie-breaker. Newly inducted National Sailor Faith Ng completed her campaign in the top 20, finishing 19th out the fleet of 41. Kudos to Nadia, Angyal, Yohan and Jayden for also doing well in their first ILCA 4 ranking regatta.
In the ILCA 6 Class, experience triumphed youth, as Victoria Chan excelled in the unpredictable conditions to score 2 bullets to seal her victory with 6 points. She is followed by Jania Ang, who also had a good day, finishing with 9 points after a 2nd and 3rd placing respectively. Day 1’s leader Kyle Lim had to settle for 3rd after struggling to master the conditions.
The remaining classes see victories from Akos Rigo & Caio Sullivan respectively. both sailors lost the last race, but 4 bullets was more than sufficient to claim the win for this regatta. Congratulations to all the winners – we look forward to having everyone back in 2 week’s time for the CSC ILCA Open.
