What a day! With winds arriving on time and from the same direction, Race Organizers wasted no time to deploy the course markers in preparation for the remaining 3 races of the CSC Optimist Championships 2022 opening series.
Isaac (3104) consolidated his position on top with a total of 36 points, despite registering one of his poorer results for the series. He established a 12 point lead over his nearest rival Lucas (3913) going into the Medal Race. Joining them in 3rd place is the regatta’s most consistent performer, Josh (3179). He completed the series with all races within the top 10, an impressive outcome with 51 points overall. Josh (3179) replaces Ella (3183) in 3rd, with the latter scoring an atypically poor performance for Day 3, resulting in a significant tumble from 3rd to 13th. We are certain with her vast experience and mental fortitude, she will come back stronger in future races.
Lyric (728) earned her place in the Medal Race with an outstanding win in Race 9, scoring her first bullet for the series. She places 8th and puts herself in strong contention for best girl in the fleet. It would be an uphill task, as she faces excellent competition from the likes of Sarah (4438), Desiree (4698) and Germaine (3177), all separated by not more than 3 points.
Sailors which did not qualify for the Medal Race shall compete in the Final Race, and we are proud to say Tiago (719) in right up there in 12th place! After his brilliant performance in Day 2, he sailed consistently well to climb one rung up in the overall standings. HHYC’s top sailor Manchak (HKG 302) is not far adrift, placing 17th overall after 9 races. His first place finish in Race 8 should have brought much cheer to the visiting contingent! The gusty winds and challenging conditions had certainly wrecked havoc throughout the fleet as many sailors registered inconsistent results. To score consistent results despite the odds is a huge achievement.
With that, we wish all sailors the very best for the Medal Race and Final Race scheduled for Day 4 – fair winds to all!
