Sunday Series II 2023 (Race 4)
Its been over a month since the last Sunday Series Race, and we are delighted to return to racing along the North-Eastern Rim of Singapore. Race 4 of the Sunday Series II started off in lackluster conditions, thankfully transitioning to a consistent South-southeasterly breeze on the journey to Tekong Buoy and back.
CSC welcomes back the jolly Jellico, the smallest boat in the IRC Class. After a long break from racing, skipper Cedric shrugged off the rust to hold her own amongst seasoned competitors. The J24 sailed well to finish the race just 1 minute behind Adona on corrected time, placing a well-deserved 2nd. The Singapore Regatta Champion registered a full crew onboard, taking advantage of their numbers when the winds picked up. Completing the podium in 3rd would be none other than the mighty Minx, a solid effort following her triumph during last week’s Twilight Race.
In another competitive episode in the PY Keelboat Class, we note a total of 7 boats participating, of which the top 4 finishers were only separated by a minute in total on corrected time. Only just edged off the podium, kudos to Brio for finishing just 30 seconds behind 3rd placed Jock. While she did not touch any buoys this weekend, a pre-mature start saw the J24 playing catch-up during the first half of the race. Her efforts reaped rewards, clawing her way back to finish just seconds behind second-placed Invictus. The Mumm 30 had also been absent from the scene for a while, therefore it was an impressive result from Justin and the crew, surrendering first place to Birregurra by a mere 15 seconds on handicap. The Hanse 415 was sailed masterfully by skipper Basil, recovering quickly from a false start to power her way through the fleet into pole position and eventual victory.
The Multihull fleet multiplied by 2, as Miss Visayan was joined by Bula on the course. Also scoring a false start, the former closed the gap on the first 2 legs, overtaking the Corsair Dash 750 to round Tekong Buoy in the lead. She defended her position well on the remaining legs to score a bullet 1 minute ahead of Bula.
Congratulations to all winners, and thank you all for participating in the Sunday Series this weekend. See you next week for the 4th race of the Twilight Series!
