Twilight Series III 2023 (Race 4)

Even the rain made way for the race. What was initial thought to be a wet outing, turned out nice for the 14 boats that showed for the day. The twilight course may seem to be a boring circuit race but the strong tidal flows and the shifty winds can turn it into a very challenging sail.

At the sound of the horn, Scott in his Nacra 16, shot to the lead and led the fleet of beach cats and trimarans towards Changi Buoy. He kept the lead through out the race and left the entire fleet of boats in his wake. William, in Bubble Trouble, on the other hand had issues with his spinnaker trip line thus preventing it from being fully deployed.

Gary’s Miss Visayan, also held her lead throughout and finished 1 min 6 secs ahead of Michael Flecker in Bula. David Steel finished third in Dot Dot Dot and Eugene Wong coming in fourth in Sirius Swift.

After months of repairs and upgrades, Sapphire Star, helmed by Simon Connor, sailed a perfect course and led the fleet throughout the race. Minx, the lone entry in the IRC division, sailed well to break from the fleet and crossed the line behind Sapphire Star and taking 1st place for IRC.

In the PY division, there was an error with the handicap numbers – Sincere apologies to the boats affected. After corrected time, the finishing positions are as follows:

1st – Sapphire Star; 2nd – Remington; 3rd – Shardana; 4th – Balqis; 5th – Birregurra; 6th – Brio; 7th – Nevis

Thanks also to Ad and Luke who volunteered to be the camera crew for the day. Congratulations to all the winners, we’re on the final stretch! Join us on 9 and 10 Dec for the 2023 Twilight and Sunday Series Finale – we look forward to concluding the 2023 Club Racing Calendar with all of you.
