CSC Optimist Championship (Gold) 2024

The Optimist Gold Fleet is back at CSC for another round of racing! In addition to our seasoned sailors, we see some fresh faces who have just been promoted from the Silver Fleet. No matter your level of experience, we will be cheering you on, and we hope everyone accomplishes their personal targets this weekend!

Everyone can unanimously agree that the day’s weather was dreary, to say the least. The rain was incessant, and the chilly air added to the discomfort of being out on water. However, one positive from today’s conditions was the presence of consistent winds. This allowed the race committee to hit the maximum of 4 races, making today a productive one. Also, with all races being the IODA course, it was a valuable opportunity for sailors to refine their strategies beyond the typical Windward-Leeward races.

The names that make up the top set are not unfamiliar. Nobody can doubt that the sailor leading the fleet is Ethan Chia (121), showcasing his customary consecutive bullet finishes once again. Lucas Cao Zhihong (149), who was just shy of placing top 10 in last month’s regatta, is now 2nd overall! He is followed by another Ethan, this time Ethan Lee (4416) who rounds off the current podium. Also as expected, the ladies who command the Female Category are Germaine Sim (3177), Desiree Lee Yuet Chi (4698) and Mikaela Rae Ng (151). Well done to these sailors for their outstanding performance!

Heading the CSC pack is of course Lyric Li Yuxuan (728), her advanced expertise securing herself an impressive 19th overall. Charles Kong (716) has also done fantastically to place himself 21st overall! CSC squadron members who are competing in their first-ever races in the Gold Fleet are Judy Zhang Sudjana (33) and Sayawaki Kogut Leopold (710). Being in 70th and 76th positions respectively, they have done an excellent job despite having a taste of the elevated skill of their competitors. A big congratulations to them for achieving this milestone!

The conclusion of Day 1 of the CSC Optimist Championships (Gold) 2024 marks another successful day of racing. Rest well, and all the best to everyone for the final day!
