CSC Sunday Series I 2024 (Race 3)

With the NE Monsoon well and fully departed, sailors are left with the uncertainty of the inter-monsoon season – complete with thundery showers and fickle winds. The day started with becalmed conditions, and a gentle easterly breeze saved the start from being delayed. Due to the light winds, a pennant 1 course was chosen, keeping all 14 boats on a short course to changi buoy and back.

The significant outgoing tide at the start caused some chaos for both fleets, resulting in premature starts from Silhouette, Forever Young, Dot Dot Dot and Enter the Dragon. The Young 84 was not so much over the line as they were late for the start, struggling to return to the start line from the middle of the channel. Jasper and crew however bounced back to secure top spot in the PY Class, placing 30 seconds ahead of close friends and rivals Waka Tere on corrected time. The light winds proved too much for team Birregurra, as the Hanse 415 struggled to get into her groove throughout the race, eventually placing 3rd. Jock’s race ended early, with the scorching sun a little too much for the team to handle.

The IRC Class stood proud as the biggest fleet in attendance – not something we see every weekend! 6 boats on the start line and all very capable of mounting a serious challenge. It was however no surprise that Jellico emerged victorious, as the J24 does have some advantage in the light airs. Her big sister (Adona) was left to contend for 2nd place, but succumbed to the patchy conditions on the final downwind to surrender 2nd place to Minx. The X342 had a good day out, clean maneuvers and an experienced crew made all the difference.

Miss Visayan and Bula return to battle it out for top spot on the course, but Dot Dot Dot stole the show with her tight rounding at Changi Buoy – so tight that her port ama kissed the mark ! Kudos to the skipper and team for the attempt at what could have been an excellent mark-rounding, as well as a quick recovery after that. She eventually placed third, with Miss Visayan and Bula claiming first and second respectively.

Thank you everyone for joining us this weekend, see you on Friday for Members Night, and Saturday for Race 3 of the Twilight Series.
