CSC Twilight Series I 2024 (Race 3)

The last weekend of April ushered in the inter-monsoon conditions, with fickle winds and sporadic showers accompanying the ongoing heatwave across south-east asia. Thankfully for the sailors, the 3rd race of the Twilight series had sufficient winds from a north-easterly direction for the multihull fleet to complete the full course and carrying the keelboat fleet and the lonely beach catamaran for 1.5 laps around changi and squance.

In the IRC fleet, only Jong Dee and Simba were in attendance, 2 of the most decorated and experienced teams in the past decade. The J35 did not seem on top of her game on Saturday, as she struggled to overtake Simba on the final lap to finish. Atul, skipper of the Dehler 39 overcame severe jetlag to steer his team ahead of her rivals, and stayed ahead to secure their first bullet for the season.

Simon Connor’s star continues to shine brightly in the Twilight Series, as Sapphire Star claims her 2nd consecutive bullet to propel ahead in the overall standings. She defended well against a hungry brio, whose skipper had missed out on previous races due to a surgery, and the wiley Waka Tere, who were probably quite content with their 3rd place finish on corrected time. A starboard-port situation on the 2nd upwind between Jock and Remington was the only blemish on an otherwise smooth completion of the race for the PY fleet.

We had 4 boats representing the multihull fleet, and Miss Visayan was in dominant form. She continues her win streak, staying ahead of Dot Dot Dot to secure another bullet for the series. Sirius Swift deployed a secret weapon for Race 3, welcoming aboard an Asian Games medallist to provide tactical and technical expertise. It seems she reaped rewards from Wee Chin’s presence, as the Corsair 880 managed to place ahead of Bula to score the final place on the podium. Bubble Trouble stayed out of trouble to complete the race at a leisurely pace. Many thanks to Will and crew for continuing to support our events as the sole beach catamaran representative.

Congratulations to all winners. Happy Labour Day and see you all next week for race 4 of the Sunday Series I.
