CSC Sunday Series II 2024 (Race 2)

Back-to-back racing this weekend has left us pretty exhausted, as the Club had the pleasure of not only Twilight and Sunday Series taking place, but the month-end monthly dinghy race featuring over 30 sailors organized concurrently as well. Blessed with consistent breeze from a south-easterly direction, all the boats on water lapped up the beautiful sailing conditions to end the week on a positive note.

The Sunday Series II saw a smaller fleet participate, perhaps some teams struggle to find sufficient crew to run a spinnaker programme onboard. Nevertheless, the boats in attendance got to enjoy an afternoon of smooth sailing (albeit some dinghy dodging required), as sailors were brought to Tekong Buoy and back in a classic pennant 4 course.

In the absence of most of the fleet, the IRC Class was represented by 2 Js: Jong Dee and Adona. Both boats were closely matched on the course, and were separated by less than a minute across the finish line. Despite the J35’s best efforts, the J29 emerged the quicker of the 2, subsequently claiming a comfortable bullet on corrected time. Some credit should go to the crew on Adona, who despite Ad’s absence, adapted quickly to stand-in skipper Ed’s helmsmanship.

The same faces return to contest in the PY Class, with one new entrant to spice things up in the fleet. Wild Thing, a reflex 28 formally based in Raffles Marina organised their first participation in the Sunday Series, hopefully the start of many more fruitful weekend sailing campaigns. At the top half of the fleet, Birregurra finally scored the elusive bullet, ending the weekend on a high. She fends off strong performances from her lighter and more agile competitors, as her waterline length and stability proved advantageous in the heavier conditions. Forever Young survived near-broach situations on the stretch to squance, earning the team a well-deserved 2nd on corrected time. Twilight Series II Race 2 winners Waka Tere completed the podium in their favourite position – 3rd, another impressive feat from the Nelson.

Miss Visayan, Dot Dot Dot, Bula and Kaze return to battle on the Multihull class, and the fight for top spot could not be any closer! After an hour of racing, Miss V and Dot Dot Dot were neck and neck at the finish line – with the former crossing the line one second ahead. Kudos to both boats, and special commendations to David, skipper of Dot Dot Dot for completing this weekend of races completely solo. Bula bounced back from Saturday’s Main halyard mishap, and rounded up the winners in 3rd.
