CSC Twilight Series II 2024 (Race 3)

CSC sailors returned from a long break, with the attention previously focused on the recently concluded National Day celebrations and Western Circuit Sailing Regatta taking place in the first half of August. Although the Southwest monsoon continue to delight sailors on the southern and western coasts of Singapore, these winds tend to be more fickle along the east johor straits, with participants of the 3rd Twilight Series II race experiencing the tricky conditions firsthand. A total of 12 boats were present on the start line, and coupled with strong outgoing tide, made for a challenging evening on the course.

In the IRC Class, Adona executed a textbook start, putting on an impressive display of an excellent start routine and follow-up boat speed. She was a cut above the rest, crossing the line comfortably in first place and registering a 17 point lead over her closest adversary, Simba. On the other end of the fleet, Jong Dee’s poor start meant that it was an uphill struggle from the beginning. Despite her best efforts, she had to settle for 3rd on corrected time.

A great start certainly does not guarantee a spot on the podium, and this was unfortunately the case for Slingshot. The race 1 winner also executed a near-perfect start in the PY Class, but the weakening breeze and a tactical mistake after rounding Changi Buoy proved costly for the GK 24, ending her Race 3 campaign in a disappointing 5th on corrected time. On the podium were familiar names, starting with Jock! The J24 had recently returned from a successful WCSR, finishing 2nd overall for the 2-day event. Now back in our club races with skipper Suzanne at the helm, the refreshed club boat secured top spot ahead of Nevis and Waka Tere respectively.

The multihull rivalry continues, as Miss V and Bula return to vie for top spot. The former bounced back from a pre-mature rounding of CSC 1, successfully defending against a dashing Bula looking to capitalize on the error. Sirius Swift were calm and composed for most of the race, only to suffer a delay to their finish time on the last stretch due to technical difficulties involving a gybe. Despite the troubles, it was still overall a good day out on water for the fleet.

We’re glad to have most of the fleet back from summer holidays and the WCSR – we look forward to club races returning to full swing.
