2025 CSC Optimist Championship (Silver Fleet)

Changi Sailing Club welcomes sixty-two (62) young Optimist sailors in the Silver fleet with a blast!

Racing an Optimist boat during the monsoon season is a unique challenge, especially given the strong winds, heavy rain, and unpredictable weather patterns. The Optimist, being a small dinghy designed for younger sailor is quite responsive to wind changes and can be especially difficult to handle in such conditions. Monsoon winds can be very gusty and may shift suddenly, which can make it hard to maintain control specially to less experience sailors. The two-day racing in a tough condition tested the sailors both physically and mentally enduring the strong monsoon wind.
Day 1 wind condition shocked the sailors, unusual sailing area for others and wind strength which put for some sailors on “break” and waited for the situation to calm down. Unfortunately, the wind was blowing consistently until Race 3 of the day, left them with no choice but to survive the race. Coaches did everything they could to depower sail and tightened gears for their sailors to be able to handle the boat. It was indeed a very challenging day for everyone, despite of all the chaos and happenings on water, the race management team secured 4 races and all sailors were safely reached the shore, ready for the next day of racing again!
After 4 races, Aiden Wong Kang Jun (SGP 2018) was on top of the score sheets with only 2 points away from Worawit Jutahkiti (SGP 2025) both from Constantwind Seasport, close fight in such wind condition, Hagen  Goh Yong Cheng (SGP 3492) from SAFYC in the 3rd place. Our CSC’s best performing sailor for this regatta, Sage Yeh (SGP 796) fighting to climb up (4th) the podium against these strong boys and also holds the top spot (1st) in the Female category.
Day 2, a much lighter wind condition and majority of the sailors were able to handle the condition. However, the heavy rain can significantly reduce visibility, making it harder to navigate to the top mark. With much better condition more sailors were managed to finish their races and given more chances to redeem themselves from disastrous day 1 of racing. More sailors were happy and motivated to perform better and finish the race happily. Day 2 results reshuffle the leaderboard results, Daniel Seah (SGP 3925) from SAFYC pushed Aiden Wong down to 4th place after a strong performance on Race 5 & 6 (1, 1 – 2 bullets) enough for him to clinched the Overall 1st place. Worawit Jutahkiti (SGP 2025) cautiously sailed to defend his spot in 2nd place and Sage Yeh (SGP 796) from Changi Sailing Club took over the 3rd spot from Hagen Goh, contented in 5th spot. Sage also won 1st place in the Female category.
Overall, the sailors did their very best to sail good even its beyond their limitations. Well done to everyone!
We would to give thanks to our Race Management team led by Ryan Kwok for their hard work in maintaining a quality standard of racing. To our Jury, Wee Tee for ensuring sailor’s raced fairly for these 2 days. The CSC staff and secretariat for the ground support and assistance, to the parents for their undeniable support for there kids and sport.
To the coaches who trained these young sailors, making sure that they are ready to race in such challenging wind and weather condition. Thank you all and we will see you again in 2026!
