CSC Two-Island Race 2025
The race that was almost two long….
What is a sailing festival without the occasional atypical/challenging conditions? The 2025 edition of the CSC Two-Island Race was the first weekend for the year where sailors had to attempt a passage course in extremely light air. With some boats subjected to over 8 hours of racing, it was safe to say that this was a test of physical and mental endurance.
The Multihull class had a healthy representation of 7 boats adorning the start line – what a view! Arguably the fleet most likely to complete the course quickest, the indomitable DingHao emerged as the top performer in her class. Her very risky strategy of staying in shallower waters fighting the tide paid off, putting an untouchable lead of over 26 minutes between her and closest rival Dot Dot Dot. The Corsair 28s completed the course in 2nd and 3rd respectively, as Miss Visayan successfully defended against the unrelenting Bula just 2 minutes behind. Phoenix’s finishing time of 7hrs and 34mins was just 4 mins short of the time limit, an excellent example of perseverance and grit from Freddy and team!
After an excruciating morning searching for wind, the northly breeze of 6-8 knots in the early afternoon provided a much needed respite for the keelboat fleet. It was however a little too late for two teams, as Slingshot and Izaboo made the wise decision to retire and return to the moorings. In another show of determination, RSYC Dua and Southern Light’s 8hr efforts rewarding them with a well deserved finishing position, kudos to both teams! At the top of the table, Sapphire Star earned a bullet for her successful circumnavigation attempt, completing the course in 7hrs and 39mins. The custom Olsen was followed by Bound to Please and Forever Young in a close 2nd and 3rd respectively. Championing the IRC Class was the mighty Minx, keeping the class representation up in the absence of usual contenders such as Born in Fire, Adona, Jong Dee and Jellico. Well done Lucas; completing the course in a commendable 7hrs and 47mins.
Congratulations to all winners! Despite the many regional and international events ongoing, it is heartening to see a healthy fleet of 17 boats across three classes. We now take a break for chinese new year – and look forward to resumption of racing in February!
