CSC Commodore's Cup 2025 - Day 2 | Changi Sailing Club

Day 2 of the CSC Commodore’s Cup continued to test the sailors’ endurance and resilience, as the NE Monsoon showed no signs of waning. Coupled with a strong outgoing tide, the two pennant 4 courses deployed in Races 4 and 6 truly challenged all teams at the infamous Tekong Buoy. Despite the odds, all sailors did well to overcome the obstacles, successfully completing another three grueling races to end this year’s CSC Sailing Festival on ahigh.

In the beach catamaran class, the fleet was reduced to two, and amongst themselves, they made the wise decision to sail only two races, but the race organizer ensured that they were sufficiently challenged with a surprise pennant 7 course on the second race of the day. Twisted Creature looked jubilant after their triumph in the first race of the day, beating the very experienced Addiction to score their first and only bullet for the series. Addiction’s solo attempt for both races were sufficient for skipper Jeremy Perrier to clinch the Commodore’s Cup Challenge Trophy in her division. Overall, the Viper F16 also performed convincingly throughout the season, earning her the 2025 Sailing Festival Challenge Trophy as well. Twisted Creature’s first place finish in the Round Tekong Race and 2nd place finish in the Commodore’s Cup secured Kellie and Matt a most deserving 2nd placing overall.

The multihull class saw the resurgence of Ding Hao, as she bounced back from a dismal Day 1 performance to sweep the remaining 3 races and earn her place on the podium. It was however just slightly off Miss Visayan’s score, as the Corsair F28 successfully defended top spot with a 1 point margin after discard. Dot Dot Dot completed the winners’ list with a consistent showing of threes and twos to place 3rd overall. In the Sailing Festival Leaderboard, Miss Visayan made it a double for the weekend, winning Round Ubin, Felkin and Commodore’s Cup to claim the Multihull Challenge Trophy. Despite Bula’s absence from the Commodore’s Cup, Skipper Mike Flecker consistent attendance in all races from January to February was enough to place Bula 3rd overall.

There was plenty of start line action in the Keelboat PY Class for Day 2, with a few boats ending up a little to eager at the start line, forcing a pre-mature start. The intense close-quarters competition could also be attributed to the large fleet, totaling 11 boats on the line. Southern Light was the best performer for Day 2, amassing the lowest score (8 points) after three races. It was however insufficient to remove RSYC Dua from pole position, as the little J24 placed in the top three for Races 4 & 5 to secure the PY Challenge Trophy, successfully completing her title defence. Despite starting the day poorly, Firstlight quickly found their groove to finish in 3rd for the remaining 2 races to place 3rd overall for the Commodore’s Cup. In the Sailing Festival Leaderboard, Southern Light and RSYC Dua did a switch around, with the Moody 376 positioned as the best overall performer this season. She places ahead of RSYC Dua and Forever Young in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

6 became 5 in the IRC Class, as Zanzibar failed to find a spare sail in time to continue racing for Day 2, effectively ending their campaign early. The tussle for first place started off with another bullet coming from team Adona, putting herslef in prime position to win the Commodore’s Cup. Her adversaries certainly did not make it easy in the remaining 2 races, As Minx and Born in Fire took a bullet each, keeping things interesting. Minx surprised everyone with a brilliant tactical call in race 6, solving the puzzle at Tekong Buoy to round it first and extend an insurmountable lead on the leg to CAAS 2 and finish. In the overall sailing leaderboard, Ad Smit and crew sealed the double, winning both the Commodore’s Cup and crowned best performer in the IRC Class for the Sailing Festival 2025. Minx’s consistent attendance and results cemented her position in 2nd overall, beating the mast-less and absent J24, Jellico.
