CSC Lady Helm Race 2025

9th March 2025/in Regattas, Competitive Racing, Sailing, Social/by CSC

#AccelerateAction

This year’s Lady Helm Race coincided with International Women’s Day (IWD), taking place on 8th March.

IWD honors the achievements of women across all aspects of life – social, economic, cultural, and political – while also advocating for gender equality. This year’s campaign theme is ‘Accelerate Action’

Focusing on the need to Accelerate Action emphasizes the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.

The Lady Helm Race saw 9 accomplished Women at the helm, taking on the infamous course 4 for the afternoon. As luck would have it, a fresh north-easterly showed up at the start line, taking the fleet to Tekong and back just before a westerly system arrived at our moorings.

In the IRC Class, a lone Shardana sailed well with Skipper Claire Canning at the helm. Despite some confusion at the start, the Dufour 34 covered lost ground on the beat to Tekong and was the 3rd keelboat to cross the finish line. Right at the top of the PY Class, Skipper Veronica Kok on Birregurra sailed the Hanse 415 superbly, taking line honours and top spot on corrected time. In 2nd, the venerable Southern Light was the only keelboat with their spinnaker up – great work Hana! Completing the podium would be a very pleasing effort from Bound to Please, skippered by Pan Mao. It was an excellent family effort and looked like a fun day out for the trio onboard.

Representing the Multihulls were Aspiah and Simin on Miss Visayan and Phoenix respectively. Miss Visayan took first place comfortably, but kudos to Simin at the helm of Phoenix, for sailing a confident race despite the chasing storm approaching from the west!

Congratulations to all – we hope everyone had a great day out on water. See you all on 22-23 March for the first race of both of our club series (Twilight Series I and Sunday Series I).
