Sunday Series I 2025 – Race 1

After a successful saturday twilight, the sunday series turnout seemed significantly smaller, with only 7 boats on the start line. Nevertheless, the northeast monsoon delivered beautiful sailing conditions, as sailors enjoyed the cooler weather and overcast skies for their journey to Tekong Buoy and back.

Joining us for racing was the reigning Singapore Regatta champion & recently crowned Horsburgh Challenge winner, Jolt. The J99 chose to register in the PY class for this series, citing wrong sails and insufficient crew. She was unfortunately only joined by the smaller J in the fleet – Jock. The J24 without their spinnaker could not close the gap between her and her larger and quicker relative, settling for second in the PY Class.

Representing the IRC fleet were also another two variants from the J family – Adona and Jong Dee. Together with Shardana, a Dufour 34, this trio of performance cruisers made up the largest class for the afternoon. Adona and Jong Dee got into a little match racing action at the start – providing opportunity for Shardana to take an early lead and establish some distance from her rivals. When the dust settled, there was a shuffle in the finishing positions across the line, with Adona taking line honours and Jong Dee following 3 minutes after. Shardana’s 1 minute gap between Jong Dee and her was all she needed to secure a comfortable 2 minute lead on Jong Dee after handicap correction. Adona’s win was not without a little pre-race snafu, with skipper Richard saving the day when he placed his hand in his left pocket.

In the Multihull Class, we resume the familiar two-boat action between Miss Visayan and Bula. The former took an early lead, but Bula kept things close throughout the course. The race was completed with a swift 1-2 finish for the two corsairs, good clean fun from both teams!
