Twilight Series I 2025 - Race 2 | Changi Sailing Club

It was great to see a larger fleet this weekend, as a few skippers absent from last week resumed the club racing routine with race 2 of the Twilight Series I. Fortunately for the 10 boats on water, the week’s thunderstorms did not materialize on Saturday, leaving sailors with a pleasant easterly breeze and a beautiful backdrop for nice photos.

We had 4 boats on the start line for the Multihull Class, and some really close sailing between changi and squance throughout the course. Dot Dot Dot successfully fended off the advances from Bula and Miss Visayan, with the chasing pair neck and neck for most of the evening. Eventually the larger of the 2 managed to finish just seconds ahead, leaving the Dash 750 to settle for 3rd. Sirius Swift’s outboard engine woes continue to plague the crew, having to again call for assistance towing her back to the mooring after the race.

In the PY Class, Birregurra and Skybird scored the best starts, and the results were a reflection of that. The Hanse 415 quickly got out of the wind shadow after the start, taking an early lead and putting in their best efforts to extend the time between her and the fleet. Her efforts paid off, securing her a bullet 38 seconds ahead of her closest rival, Skybird. The Dehler 34’s second placing was a comfortable one over the smallest boat in the fleet – Nevis. Ben Smawfield’s Catalina 23 scored the first bullet for the series in race 1, but could not replicate that performance yesterday. Nevertheless, she had done just enough to place on the podium, 21 seconds ahead of Jock on corrected time.

In the fleet’s absence, Jong Dee certainly took her time at the start, trailing the fleet at the beginning of the race. She overtook all PY boats to claim line honours. Good to see the IRC fleet being represented, and we look forward to the return of the rest of the fleet later this month.
