Twilight Series I 2025 - Race 3 | Changi Sailing Club

Returning from sunny Bintan, the wet and cool weather on Saturday made for a refreshing change to our weekly sailing routine, with 11 boats joining us on the start line for the 3rd race of the CSC Twilight Series I. The breeze that came with the rain was very promising for the first half hour, but subsequently tapered down to 5 knots and below – forcing Race Officials to shorten the course for the fleet.

A pair of experienced teams represented the IRC Class – Jong Dee & Simba. The J35 and Dehler 39 are pretty even on handicap, but the team which had more regular sailing over the past few weeks surely had an edge over the other. Simba had just returned from a month’s break due to frequent travels, and the team looked happy to be back out on water. Jong Dee bounced back from a premature start, quickly completing her penalty to commence her leeward overtaking maneuvers over the rest of the keelboat fleet. She succeeded, and earned a well-deserved victory in the IRC Class.

There were a total of 5 boats and 1 floating BBQ caravan in the Keelboat PY Class. Southern Light deployed a successful distraction of delicious BBQ aromas, with sailors downwind crying foul. That said, they might have been too distracted themselves, completing the race in 6th (at least the team had a great time!). Skybird led the fleet from the start, with Bintan Regatta winner Birregurra hot on her heels. The Hanse 415 eventually claimed line honours, but lost out by 2 minutes on handicap correction to the Dehler 34. Completing the podium was the smallest boat in the fleet – Nevis. The successful combo of Ben and Lucas made it 3 podium finishes out of 3 races, a consistent performance from the Catalina 23 sport!

In the Multihull Class, Miss Visayan’s campaign was cut short as their main halyard unraveled before the start, resulting in a match race between the remaining 2 trimarans, Sirius Swift and Dot Dot Dot. The former struggled in the light air, and it seems like her new helmswoman was still trying to find her bearings on this new boat. Keira might possibly be sailing for the first time on a Corsair 880, a significant upgrade from the ILCA dinghy she’s more accustomed to. Sirius Swift eventually retired on the final leg – looking stranded on the course with the wind reduced to 3 knots. Dot Dot Dot led from start to finish, securing her 2nd bullet for the series to lead in the overall standings.
