CSC Monthly Dinghy Race (27 April)
Monthly Dinghy Race is back!
After a series of intense national ranking races across the island, CSC dinghy sailors of various skill levels offers the opportunity to compete in a friendly yet competitive environment. These races typically feature classes such as Optimist, ILCA and other types of dinghies, accommodating a wide range of participants from juniors to adults. Despite of the bad weather threatening around the Changi Beach area, the Race Management team compose of parent-volunteers (Matthew Kong, Shahrom and Race Officer Claudio Salgado) managed to secure 3 races. A total of 29 boats of different classes raced in the light and steady Easterly wind, can’t complain at all.
In the Optimist Division (Alpha), Charles Kong remains the top of the fleet finished in 1st place, with only 2 points away, Mikail Shahrom missed the top spot and was happy in 2nd place. Sage Yeh, clinched the last place in the podium, contented as 3rd placer. Meanwhile in the much younger Optimist division (Bravo and Charlie) Ptolemy Smith in 1st place, Mailee O’shea in 2nd and Tristan Tham for 3rd place. New sailors in the racing division (Charlie); Elouan Gay started his racing path in good track, 1st in his division, Sisters Khalisha Shahrom and Afiya Shahrom fought for 2nd & 3rd spots. With just 1 point difference, Khalisha won (2nd place) Afiya (3rd) in their first time racing in MDR. Good job kiddos!
Meanwhile, in the young adult and adult division raced in different classes of dinghies, ILCA sailors: Caio Sullivan Ikuto Mori and Tiago Salgado put up a great performance competing with other strong sailors in their class. After 3 races, Caio Sullivan – 1st place, Ikuto Mori – 2nd place and Tiago Salgado in 3rd place. In the ILCA 4 division, 7 sailors battled in tight race with only 1 point difference in the top 3 finishers. Ikuto Mori emerged the 1st prize winner, followed by Tiago Salgado in 2nd and Misa Lim Laurie in 3rd place.
A great day in the end, sailors were back to shore safely just before the thunders and showers in the afternoon, all safe and enjoyed the 3 races and happy to end the day with winnings! Congratulations to the winners and well done to everyone for making an effort to join us every month! Thank you sailors, parents and coaches, a collective effort in making our MDR a regular dinghy scenery at the club!
