Twilight Series I 2025 - Race 5 | Changi Sailing Club

We have a full weekend of sailing activities lined up this weekend – basic sailing courses, NTU Dinghy Training, Monthly Dinghy Race, Youth Race Training, Twilight Series 1 finale and Sunday Series I finale. It is not every day we get to see our waterways overflowing with sailing activity!

The Twilight Series I Finale took place at 4pm on Saturday, in a 32 degrees weather that felt like 40 :( Thankfully the breeze cooperated, much to the delight of the 12 boats lined up on the start line for the 5th and final race of the series.

In the IRC Class, Josei once again stepped up in Skipper Paul’s absence, taking the helm of Jong Dee in the battle between the J35 and Dufour 34. Having missed out on most of the series, Shardana will not be in the running for overall honours. At the start, Shardana claimed an early lead on the downwind leg to Changi, setting the pace for the match race. Despite Jong Dee’s best efforts, the J35 was unable to close the gap, settling for 2nd. Shardana’s superb performance meant that she was the deserving recipient of the pennant 1 shot glass. In the overall standings, Jong Dee had done enough, winning Series I in the IRC category. 2nd in the Series for the IRC Class was the absent Simba. Her attendance in 3 out of 5 races was sufficient to secure her a runner-up position.

The largest fleet for the series saw 5 boats representing the class in Race 5 – Nevis, Skybird, Marut, Wild Thing and Jock. The results were in the same order, but the finishing order were quite different. Skybird redeemed herself after her last-place finish in Race 4, sailing a much better race to claim line honours in the PY Class. Alas, her lead was not enough to claim victory, bested only by the nimble Nevis. The catalina 23 finished 11 minutes behind the dehler 34, placing 1min 10 secs ahead on corrected time – winning the final race and overall series with a total of 6 points after 1 discard. Marut completed the podium for race 5, but with this being her only race attended, was left out of contention for the series. Instead, a consistent performance by Suzanne & her Jock Stars throughout the series awarded Jock with a deserving 3rd overall.

4 Corsairs and a striking red Firefly represented the Multihull Class – as Stefan Vidan and friends made a guest appearance in our Twilight Series. Despite crossing the line last, a costly error of not sailing the right course from Dot Dot Dot bumped Firefly up to 3rd. The fight for top spot was intense, with Bula winning decisively in the final race, a crucial result for the overall standings. Her bullet made that 2 for the series, breaking the tie between her and Miss Visayan to claim overall victory.
