Twilight Series II 2025 – Race 2

What a long break it’s been! After more than a month away to make way for sailing events on Singapore’s southern and western fronts, the Club is back in action. The pause was also timely for us to launch our SG60 Membership Promotion — 60% off entrance fees for new sign-ups through August. The response has been fantastic, and we can’t wait to welcome our new members to upcoming sailing and social programmes.

The first Club event to resume, hot on the heels of a successful Western Circuit campaign, was Twilight Series II, Race 2. Eight keelboats turned up, with seven contesting the PY Class and the ever-faithful Jong Dee keeping the IRC flag flying. Skipper Paul Kendall and crew had such a good time on the water that they even mistook the wrong mooring buoy on return — all in the name of rum-fuelled good humour!

In the PY Class, Race 1 podium finishers Waka Tere and Marut locked horns once more. Fresh from victories at the RSYC Regatta and Western Circuit, the Nelson 10 looked sharp against a diverse fleet that included defending champions Nevis and the venerable Skybird. The conditions, however, were anything but sharp — light winds and a strong outgoing tide made the uphill task to Squance a real grind. Still, Waka Tere made light work of it, keeping pace with the Multihulls to claim both line honours and victory on corrected time. Despite crossing second, Skybird couldn’t quite fend off Marut, who excelled in the calm and secured 2nd on handicap. The Dehler 34 had to settle for 3rd.

The Multihull Class was a familiar four-way faceoff between Miss Visayan, Bula, Oojoo, and Sirius Swift. In the soft breeze, Bula held her edge to finish just ahead of Miss Visayan — with an unlikely shadow in Waka Tere, which impressively kept pace with the Multihulls all the way. Sirius Swift clinched 3rd, leaving Oojoo just shy of the podium.

The shortened course was a relief for many, though three boats — Nevis, Summer Breeze, and Jock — unfortunately fell short of the time limit after nearly 2.5 hours of battling. Kudos to their perseverance and sportsmanship!

Congratulations to all winners, and thank you to every sailor who made the return of our Twilight Series such a lively affair. We look forward to seeing everyone again next week for the Pulau Ketam Clean-Up (30 August) and Sunday Series II, Race 3 (31 August).
