CSC Monthly Dinghy Race (August 2025)

The Monthly Dinghy Race was successfully held on Sunday, 31 August 2025. This month’s race saw an impressive turnout with a total of 40 dinghies (20 Optimists,19 ILCAs & 420) including 3 international entries from the Philippines (PHI), marking another successful step in the event’s international outreach. The competition took place under favourable weather conditions, with steady light to moderate South-Westerly winds of 6 to 8 knots with occasional gusty and shifty wind, slight current from West to East towards at the later part of the day — ideal for dinghy racing.

In the ILCA 4 Division, 15 strong competitors racing for the podium. CSC’s top ranked in the ILCA 4, Ikuto Mori showed a good fight against PHI National Sailor, Zildjan Martin (ZM) from the beginning until the last race of the day. Both finished in the same points, same number of results, but ZM successfully win Ikuto in a countback, finishing first in the last race and sealed the 1st place in the podium. Isaiah Yap and Lauren Lim, also fought hard in the 3rd place with the tied point as well. Isaiah managed to clear the way to the 3rd place and clinched the medal for his first MDR!

Sisters, Maia Laurie Lim and Misa Laurie Lim showed an excellent performance fresh from their international racing stints, both managed to finished in the podium against the usual competitors in the MDR; Daryl Goh and Rohit Behl. Maia took the top spot, 1st place, Daryl Goh in 2nd and Misa on 3rd place.

In the Optimist fleet, a refreshing scenery was seen on water with 20 sailors fighting at the starting line in their different category. MDR is a great avenue of learning for these young racers, competing against their friends and showcasing their skills in their own waters. With a visitor, our sailors levelled up their game to make more challenging for Raya to race in a tricky wind and current conditions, our sailor’s expertise. With experience and seasoned racer, Raya took the 1st place, with a tied points against our sailor, Arun Behl both on 7 points. Good job Arun! Charles Kong, this time missed to get the top place and was contented in the 3rd place in the Alpha Squad.

In the Bravo Squad, Tess O’Shea despite of a DNS (Did Not Start) in her first place, she still managed to finish in 1st place, Asher Goh missed 1 point away from her secured the 2nd place and Elouan Gay completed the podium in 3rd place. In the much younger category (8 to 10yrs old) Charlie Squad, first time racing in MDR; Neel Behl showed an amazing performance with 3 bullets (1st) and 2nd for discard smashing the fleet and sweep the winnings to the podium finished, 1st place! Well done, Neel! We will watch you! Mikayla Wong with 1 race UFD, she guarded her position very well against her friend, Khalisha Mohamed. Mikayla came 2nd and Khalisha was happy to be on 3rd place.

We would like to thank the sailors for a good showmanship every MDR, parents for their support, coaches patiently teaching these good sailors and CSC staff for an awesome Sunday afternoon race! The Race Management Team onboard, who volunteered their time and passion in helping us run the race! Last, but definitely not the least, our Honorary Treasurer, Mr. James Sharpe for giving out the prizes and short inspirational talk to our club sailors. Truly and inspiring support from our Committee members.
