6th CSC ILCA & 29ER OPEN (Day 2)

Day 2, final day of this weekend’s 6th CSC ILCA & 29ER OPEN, a clean and steady finish!

Due to poor wind condition and late arrival of the wind yesterday, the Organizing Authority made a decision to delay the first warning one hour later from the scheduled timing. A good call! Competitors were given an extra time to rest and strategizing today’s possible wind conditions. At exactly 12.00pm, Delta flag was displayed a signal for the sailors to start sailing towards the race course area however, as they reached Chek Jawa, the condition was not suitable to start a race, the race management left no option but to delay again the start time.

As the obvious Northeasterly wind vanished, and the Southeasterly wind line were spotted, the race management team did not waste any time, eager to secure races, mark layers rushed to their new position and set the course quickly. Thanks to the race officials and volunteers onboard led by our Chief Race Officer, Ryan Kwok for his efficiency in guiding our mark boats aiming to give our competitors a fair and balance race course.

At 2pm, we are racing! A consistent wind strength from 7 to 8kts from Southeasterly with an oscillating wind of 30 to 60 degrees in every race, a tactically challenging condition that requires a lot of patience and understanding wind pattern and tendencies. With occasional blocks of gusts coming from starboard side of the course, it was a trap! Majority of the fleet still went to the port lay line, same tactics as yesterday, patiently waiting for a lifter and sailed on to the lay line. Most sailors benefited from this move, an obvious one! The much challenging and trickier wind condition today shook the result leaderboard in 29er class. Cheryl Yong Heng Xi & Febe Wong bounce back today, dominating the fleet with a strong finish, 3 bullets! Enough to win the 1st place for this event. Missing the top spot with only 1 point apart, partners Sean Kum and Nigel Tan was contented in 2nd place. Cheryl Ho and Gemma Chen took the 3rd place.

Our homegrown sailors, CSC team dominated the prizes in different categories: Maia Lim Laurie (USA 223201) won 1st place in the Female Category for ILCA 6, Ikuto Mori (GBR 219178) secured 1st place in the Youth Mixed & Open Division (Overall). In the ILCA 4 in 13yrs old and under category, Misa Lim Laurie (SGP 223202) happily took the 1st place with her teammate Charles Kong (SGP 227676) in the 2nd place.

ILCA 4 Overall winner, unbeatable Ian Goh (SGP 222713) sitting comfortably on 1st spot from day 1, ended the championship with a great showcase of skills and flawless maneuvers in every race wins the title and receiver of this year’s challenge trophy. Despite of full effort and determination to win, his points was not enough to beat the 1st placer, Ethan Chia (SGP 226368) managed to settled in the 2nd place. Zachary Wong Weikai (SGP 221061) with his consistency in today’s racing, he was able to maintain his spot in the podium against best contenders in the fleet, 3rd place was achieved.

Congratulations to all the winners! Well done everyone! You have tried your very best to race in this demanding and not easy Changi waters! We hope that these new experience and learnings will turns out useful in your next race!

Changi Sailing Club would like to give thanks to our Race Management Team and volunteers for giving the sailors the fairest and good quality 2 days of racing! Our staff and crew, race secretariat for organizing and conducting a smooth regatta, ensuring safety matters were taken good care of. To our Jury panel, headed by our Chief Jury Mr Selvam Mookken and Andre Chew for a fair calls and decisions on-water, watching the sailors to be in their best behaviors. Our Rear Commodore for House and Grounds, Luke Doherty for giving out the prizes and his presence to encourage sailors and appreciating their hard work. To all the parents! For their support in every step of the way.

Last but definitely not the least, to the coaches! The undying contributions to the development of these future champions! The amount of time and dedication in training the sailors to be able to race in any given condition is no doubt deserve a recognition and huge thank you! Thank you Coaches!
