CSC Sunday Series I 2026 – Race 1

2026’s NE Monsoon season feels like it might never leave! Sailors participating in Sunday Series I – Race 1 were once again treated to excellent conditions, with a north-easterly breeze gusting up to 15 knots carrying the fleet swiftly around Course 4.

While a few of the usual suspects were away, it was still a healthy turnout, with 14 boats taking to the water for the opening race of our club racing season.

In the IRC Class, Jong Dee, Simba, and Forever Young were noticeably absent. The fleet was nevertheless well represented by Koru, Bound To Please, Jellico, and our visiting friends, SMUMad. As expected, the two 29-footers—Koru and Bound To Please—crossed the line first and second, making the most of the conditions. However, Jellico showed admirable persistence despite an OCS start, keeping close enough to the leaders to secure victory on handicap. SMUMad, despite her best efforts, struggled to match the fleet’s pace and will no doubt be looking to fine-tune her maneuvers ahead of future races.

A similar story unfolded in the PY Keelboat Class, where Commodore’s Cup winners Notus found herself off the pace of the leading pack, eventually finishing fourth, just shy of the podium. Some pointed to barnacles on the hull, while others questioned her upwind tactics—but perhaps it was simply that the rest of the fleet had a better day on the water.

The drama didn’t end there. Skybird had a close call at Tekong Buoy, reportedly following a tight and ill-timed tack by RSYC Lima, which left the Dehler 34 with little room to manoeuvre—and her skipper seeing green. A tense moment for both crews, and a reminder that even club racing can bring out fierce competitiveness. Both boats recovered well to secure first and second place respectively, while the ever-consistent J24, Jock, sailed a composed race to round out the podium.

In the Multihull Class, Dot Dot Dot delivered a commanding performance, leading from start to finish to claim the first bullet of the season. She was kept honest by Miss Visayan and Bula, both pushing hard throughout the race in an effort to close the gap. Despite the smaller fleet, it was encouraging to see strong commitment from the trio, and we look forward to welcoming more multihulls back in the coming weeks.
