CSC Twilight Series I 2026 – Race 1

Coming right off a successful Race 1 of the Sunday Series, the opening race of the Twilight Series I did not disappoint, with a total of 16 boats on the start line. Week after week, the NE monsoon continues to hold steady, greeting sailors with a pleasant 8–10 knots of breeze on the course. This, together with a significant incoming tide, made for some interesting sailing along the East Johor Straits.

In the IRC Class, what was meant to be a trio became a duo, as Team Simba did everything except cast off from the mooring—opting instead to commence their evening sundowners early. This left Minx and Bound To Please to enjoy the course all to themselves. The former had been away from the racing scene for an extended period, but from yesterday’s performance, it looked like she never left. Skipper Lucas made single-handed sailing on a 34-footer look effortless, making light work of the course on white sails alone. She bested a strong effort from Team Bound To Please, who still looked very pleased with their second-place finish—likely thanks to the superb sailing conditions.

A strong turnout in the Keelboat PY Class made the twilight race particularly impressive, with 10 boats competing for top honours. Waka Tere executed an excellent start, taking an early lead and never looking back. Kurt and team gradually extended their advantage over the fleet, eventually taking line honours and third on handicap. It also happened to be Kurt and Gill’s wedding anniversary—making the result all the more special.

Ahead of them on the podium were two very different boats, both opting for a three-person crew strategy. The all-female team on Jangan Main Main, skippered by Jadyn Toh (an SMU Sailing alumna), alongside CSC member Alyssa Lim and NUS Seafarer Soo Yanjia, delivered an outstanding performance to claim top honours. They edged out their all-male rivals on Brio, skippered by Michael Chung. Short-handed sailing proved to be an effective approach, with most podium finishers racing with three or fewer crew onboard.

Elsewhere in the fleet, Skybird sailed with a full crew and special guests onboard, including the Ambassador of Peru to Singapore, H.E. Francisco Tenya Hasegawa. As he bids farewell to Singapore in his final week of tenure, sailing in the Ambassadors’ Cup remains one of his fondest memories. Joined by visiting friends from Mexico, it was clear that all enjoyed their time on the Dehler 34.

In the Multihull Class, the trio was led this time by Miss Visayan, as Gary and crew made the most of the beautiful breeze to complete the full course comfortably ahead of the fleet. She was joined by the usual contenders, Dot Dot Dot and Bula, with Sirius Swift making a brief appearance as a side character, pacing alongside the fleet shortly after the start. Mike Flecker’s Bula emerged ahead of David Steel’s Dot Dot Dot to secure second place. Despite missing the podium this weekend, Dot Dot Dot has shown strong potential, and we look forward to seeing her in action at her first Bintan Regatta alongside the returning Oojoo and Soluna next week.
