CSC Sunday Series I 2026 - Race 2

No more NE Monsoon. It served us well while it lasted, but as we bid farewell to the first quarter of 2026, we now welcome the inter-monsoon conditions — bringing with it rain, light airs, and a fair bit of unpredictability.

Despite the glassy waters, race organisers managed to squeeze in a Pennant 1 course, making good use of a gentle incoming tide to ease the fleet through the 3-lap Changi buoy course.

Five boats took to the start line in the IRC division, with the lighter sports boats dominating the top spots. University sailing team SMUMad got off to a strong start, quickly establishing an early lead and setting the pace for the fleet. Jellico stayed within striking distance, forcing Tian and crew to work hard to shake off the J24 and extend their advantage on handicap.

Despite a commendable performance, the students on the Platu 25 had to settle for line honours and second overall, missing out on victory by just over a minute on corrected time. Rounding off the podium was Shardana, the Dufour 34. Skipper Antanas recovered well from an early fumble at the start, regaining composure to secure third place, just ahead of Bound To Please.

The Keelboat PY Division also saw five boats on the line — a rare and welcome sight. Waka Tere, Skybird, Jock, and Remington finished in that order, while RSYC Lima was forced to retire in the later stages due to the challenging conditions.

Waka Tere clinched victory by the slimmest of margins, finishing just 17 seconds ahead of Skybird on corrected time — a result that left the Dehler 34 wondering what might have been. Among the remaining boats, Jock made the most of the light airs, and it showed in their finishing position. Nevertheless, credit goes to all crews for their perseverance and discipline in seeing the race through.

In the Multihull class, the smallest Corsair proved mightiest on the day. Bula’s two-up strategy, combined with sharp light-air boat handling, earned her a well-deserved bullet for Race 2. She overtook Miss Visayan on the second lap to Changi and never looked back. Miss Visayan held firm in second, successfully defending against the ever-competitive Dot Dot Dot, the reigning Bintan Regatta champions.
