CSC Monthly Dinghy Race (26 April)

MDR is back!

After a long wait, with back-to-back national ranking regattas lined up, our dinghy sailors are back to home base for this month’s MDR! It was nice to see 31 boats; 17 boats from ILCA 4, 6, 7, 420 & Pacers and 14 Optimists launched on Sunday afternoon with much excitement to race against their friends and buddies back at the club! The race started with unfavorable weather as the skies were covered with dark rain clouds and threatening storms around the area. Soonest as the weather improved, a small window of opportunity for sailors and race management team to launch and tried to get races. With much effort and determination, Race 1 sound signal were heard at the course area (Changi Beach) and sailors started to maneuver, strategize and planning of what will the wind brings them coming from different direction.

During the first race, the wind shifted, a huge one! which made the course a parade of boats racing on a reach-to-reach course, Race Officer of the Day, Matthew Kong decided to continued the race and completed Race 1. With wind shifting all over the place, a quick play time and bonding for sailors with their mates, while waiting for the better wind condition to settled. The wind came back, this time from Westerly direction, a completely opposite direction, the coaches and team made a quick reconfiguration of the course, started the race for Open Division, attempting for Race 2, sailing with Westerly wind to the top mark, and the wind has stopped! The tide strengthened, boats were just floating, sculling, rocking and rolling, the Optimist couldn’t start due to strong tide! Race Officer made a decision, N flag over A for Open Division, no more racing for today, likewise to the Optimist class. Although we just managed to get 1 race for this month’s MDR, sailors and kids were still happy to be back at the club, reconnects with other friends and parents too. On this day also, our young sailors presented their new team rash guards! Showcasing unity as a team and proud to represent their club! Thank you for the parent’s effort in making these sailing uniform possible! Shahrom and his wife, Yvonne for steeping forward to be in-charge of this.
