CSC Sunday Series I 2026 - Race 3

Once again blessed (or challenged) by winds from every direction and varying strengths, sailors were treated to a classic Changi Sailing Club race layered with tactical complexity. A heavy shower just before the scheduled start forced the race committee to delay proceedings by about 30 minutes, allowing the skies to clear and a light breeze to settle in. Taking a prudent approach, the Race Officer sent the fleet on a Pennant 2 course to Squance, keeping the option open for an early shortening should conditions fade.

The wind did exactly that. A prolonged lull late in the race proved decisive, pushing two of the four IRC boats to retire despite being halfway through the final leg. Bound To Please and Shardana made the understandable call to head for the bar—still a commendable effort from both the Corby 29 and the Dufour 34. In contrast, their smaller and more nimble rivals thrived. SMUMad and Jellico capitalised on the patchy pressure, breaking away to contest a two-boat battle for top honours. The university team aboard the Platu 25 sailed an excellent race, reading the pressure lines well to secure both line honours and handicap victory, finishing comfortably ahead of the J24.

The trend continued in the Keelboat PY class, where sport boats again proved their strength in lighter conditions. A Platu 25 and J24 featured on the podium, reinforcing the view that these designs excel when the breeze is soft. RSYC Lima took the win, with Waka Tere (Nelson 33) in second and Notus close behind in third—just a minute separating the latter two. Notus had sailed convincingly through the first half of the race, keeping RSYC Lima at bay while tracking the leader, Waka Tere. However, a spinnaker issue on the final downwind leg allowed RSYC Lima to close the gap to earn the bullet on corrected time and reshuffle the standings.

In the Multihull category, both Dot Dot Dot and Miss Visayan shared a frustrating twist—misreading the course and sailing the wrong leg long enough to open the door for Bula to mount an impressive comeback. As the breeze faded, Dot Dot Dot eventually retired, while Miss Visayan persevered and was rewarded with a fresh puff that carried her across the finish line as the remaining finisher in the fleet.
