CSC Sunday Series I 2026 - Race 4

At the penultimate race of the first Sunday Series of 2026, sailors were greeted with fluky wind conditions ahead of the start — a challenge shared by race organisers as they deliberated over the most suitable course for the afternoon. After careful consideration, Race Course 5 was selected, taking competitors to Serangoon Buoy, back to CSC 1, onwards to Squance Buoy, and finally home to the finish line.

Right from the start, sailors trimmed their sails to the prevailing south-southwesterly breeze, making for a straight-line sail to Serangoon with little room for error. Leading the fleet on the return from Squance was the Corsair 750, Bula! Skippered by Michael Flecker and crew, she eventually secured first place, taking pole position heading into the final race of the Series on 24 May. Miss Visayan maintained her hold on second place, continuing a consistent run of form throughout the series. Dot Dot Dot, meanwhile, endured a roller-coaster campaign — claiming victory in Race 1 but struggling to rediscover that same form in the races that followed.

In the IRC Class, the mighty Jellico enjoyed an excellent outing, successfully keeping pace with the faster Bound To Please and Koru to triumph on handicap. Sitting on just 5 points after four races, she now leads the class and is well poised to secure overall victory for the series. Bound To Please and Koru, who finished second and third respectively on Sunday, have experienced mixed fortunes thus far, leaving them third and fourth overall. SMUMad, the Platu 25 campaigned by SMU students, also struggled with consistency but fared better than most — recording a win in Race 3 and second place in Race 2 to sit second overall heading into the final showdown.

The largest fleet has also proven to be the most hotly contested, with just a single point separating the top three contenders after four races. Waka Tere delivered another steady performance, with her third-place finish on Sunday marking her third podium appearance in four races. She currently sits atop the standings, just one point ahead of RSYC Lima. While less consistent overall, the RSYC J24 boasts the most race victories in the series, having won Races 1 and 3 to sit second overall. Not to be overlooked, Jock’s victory on Sunday propelled her into the top three, with two third-place finishes in Races 1 and 2 helping to separate her from the chasing pack. With one discard coming into play after five races, outside contenders Skybird and Notus remain firmly in the hunt, both set to benefit from dropping a poor result as the battle for podium honours intensifies.
