CSC Keelboat One-Design Championships 2026 - Day 1

1, 2, 3, Let’s Go!

The CSC Keelboat One-Design Championships 2026 kicked off in lacklustre conditions, with light and shifty winds paired with a strengthening outgoing tide making for a challenging start. A cautious Pennant 1 course was set for all 10 participating teams.

We welcomed back a rejuvenated SMU Sailing Team, returning to contest the regatta with four teams across both classes. Not to be outdone, Team RSYC fielded two teams — RSYC Lima and RSYC Dua — skippered by Roelof and Diederik respectively. Completing the J24 fleet were Jellico and Jock, both experienced teams helmed by Cedric and Suzanne respectively.

In the Platu Class, CSC scrambled two teams together at the eleventh hour to compete against SMUMad and SMUve. Boreas and Notus were helmed by a SEA Games medallist and a navy sailor respectively, bringing together a strong mix of experience and youth to challenge the well-prepared SMU teams that had been training hard in the lead-up to the regatta.

As the afternoon progressed, the breeze began to stabilise, allowing the Race Committee to shift to Pennant 2 and 3 courses for the subsequent races — ending the day on a positive note.

In the J24 Class, Jellico survived a nervous first downwind leg to score a bullet in Race 1, before following up with a 2nd and 1st place finish to end the day on 4 points. She is followed closely by Jangan Main Main and RSYC Lima, tied on 7 points heading into Day 2. The chasing pack remains tightly contested, with only a single point separating Jock and ShengLi in 4th and 5th respectively. While RSYC Dua showed moments of brilliance in Race 3, consistency proved elusive across the day.

Leading by example in the Platu Class, Boreas — boasting multiple SEA Games medallists and the most senior skipper in the fleet — secured 4 points from three races to top the standings. Just one point behind sits SMUve, a youthful SMU team led by the charismatic Lo Tian, President of SMU Sailing. Amid a lost halyard and a nearly overboard spinnaker pole, the team did well to recover and claim a bullet in Race 3, keeping the pressure on heading into Day 2.

A close fight for 3rd place is shaping up, with the patchwork crew aboard Notus — consisting largely of young sailors and CSC coaches — doing well to keep pace with the leading teams, though ultimately falling slightly short in the technical manoeuvres. SMUMad, skippered by Amanda Seah, suffered a similar fate, and both boats will return tomorrow eager to battle for a podium finish.
