CSC Keelboat One-Design Championships 2026 – Day 2

1st June 2026/in Competitive Racing, One-Design, Regattas, Sailing/by CSC

We resumed racing on Day 2 with a steady southeasterly breeze that gradually built to 8–10 knots by early afternoon, allowing races to be conducted in quick succession. Unfortunately, an equipment malfunction forced ShengLi to sit out the remainder of the day, bringing their campaign to an early and disappointing end.

For the remaining five J24s, it was business as usual as the top contenders brought their A-game to the course. Tensions ran high throughout the day, and as always, voices seemed to get noticeably louder whenever boats converged at the marks.

Apart from a blemish in Race 6 caused largely by a premature start, Team Jellico maintained their composure and consistency, finishing the series with four bullets and just six points after one discard. Revenge proved sweet for skipper Cedric and crew after Team Jangan Main Main (JMM) had bested them in the previous edition. The motley crew of SMU sailors, led by coach Andre, delivered a much-improved performance on Day 2, keeping Jellico under pressure in every race with clean boat handling and sound tactics. Their efforts were rewarded with victory in Race 6 and 2nd overall.

RSYC Lima sported a different spinnaker on Day 2, but the sail change did little to alter the standings. Consistently competitive throughout the day, she nevertheless seemed to lack that final bit of finesse needed to bridge the gap to the eventual champions, settling for 3rd with 11.5 points.

Further down the fleet, both teams showed encouraging improvement from Day 1. The time difference between the first and last boats narrowed significantly, making for much closer racing. Kudos to Jock and RSYC Dua for their improved performances and determination.

In the Platu 25 Class, Boreas got off to a flying start, claiming the first bullet of the day in Race 4. SMUve responded strongly in Race 5, sailing an excellent upwind leg and leading downwind, only to undo all their hard work by rounding the pin-end mark instead of the leeward mark. The costly mistake effectively handed the 2026 Platu 25 Challenge Trophy to Boreas, helmed by the fleet’s most senior skipper.

A consolation bullet in Race 6 completed SMUve’s rollercoaster campaign, securing second overall and leaving skipper Tian lamenting what might have been—if not for his poor eyesight.

The battle for third place was equally intense. Notus and SMUMad traded blows throughout the series and remained tied on points heading into the final reckoning. In the end, SMUMad prevailed on countback, clinching third overall thanks to their series-best finish of second place in Race 5.

Congratulations to all the winners, and a big thank you to the SMU Sailing Club and Republic of Singapore Yacht Club for once again fielding excellent teams. It was another year of exhilarating one-design racing filled with plenty of thrills, spills, and memorable moments.

We’re already looking forward to the 2027 edition, with anticipated growth in both the J24 and Platu fleets in Singapore. See you all on the start line next year!
