/in Community, Sailing/by CSCOn 1st July 2018, Changi Sailing Club (CSC) and Nanyang Technological University Sailing Club (NTUSC) signed a 2-year MOU – allowing NTUSC sailors to train and run sailing activities at CSC.
First order of business – Basic Sailing Course! On 24-26 July, 12 sailors from NTU participated in an intensive and highly condensed dinghy sailing course. Covering all the fundamentals of dinghy sailing, participants were shown the ropes *haha* – picking up the sport very quickly. We are glad to say that everyone graduated with flying colours, earning themselves the Level 1 Dinghy Proficiency Certification.
Congratulations to all, we do hope you enjoy sailing enough to join the NTUSC and continue sailing with us!

Experiential Sailing for Rainbow Centre
/in Community/by CSCAt Changi Sailing Club, we do our part to give back to the community via various collaborations and activities. This year, we build on our good relationship with Rainbow Centre Yishun Park School to once again bring students and parents out for a day-sail at the Club. Started in 1995 by Rainbow Centre, Singapore, Rainbow Centre – Balestier School (RCBS) offers Special Education programmes and services for children with development delay, intellectual disability, physical disability, multiple disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.
In May 2008, RCBS moved to its new purpose-built building at 15 Yishun Street 61. The school has since been renamed Rainbow Centre – Yishun Park School (RCYPS). This year Changi Sailing Club engaged members and their boats to volunteer for the event. We also had the honour of having our Rear Commodore of Sailing, Mr Paul Kendall gracing this Event. Big THANK YOU to the following boats for being such excellent hosts to our 36 friends from Rainbow Centre: Wild Card – Keith Wilson SDF – Derek Sharples Red Rum – Steve Manning Olmeto – Jonathan Sykes Cicak – Tim Hill Firefly – Stefan Vidan And of course not forgetting Sharifah Masturah Shahab-Yokoyama for giving the Club an opportunity to be involved with the children of Rainbow Centre for a morning of fun sailing!
China-Singapore Winter Sailing Camp 2018
/in Community, Sailing/by CSCChangi Sailing Club hosted young sailors from China who gained more than knowledge about sailing on challenging waters.
Changi Sailing Club conducted four days of intense training from 6 to 9 February 2018 for five sailors from the Sch?nst Sailing Club, China. Sch?nst Sailing Club is one of many young sailing clubs located in Jiangsu province, west of Shanghai. The sailors travelled to Singapore to escape the wintery conditions and experience sailing on a different level in warmer climate.
Having only ever sailed in a lake (flat water and no current) these young sailors had the uphill task of conquering the windy North East monsoon and choppy open seas. New friendships were forged through the training with the local club sailors on the third and fourth day. The sailing team returned home with refined sailing skills and new friends. We hope the success of this China-Singapore Winter Training Camp will pave the way for similar collaborations in the near future!
