Sunday Series II 2023 (Race 3)

With many sailors participating in the upcoming Singapore Regatta and Western Circuit Sailing Regatta, the fleet in attendance for yesterday’s Sunday Series was a lot smaller than usual. 8 boats across 3 classes graced the start line, attempting a pennant 4 course in a brisk 7 to 10 knots.

Winds were inconsistent after the start, only stabilizing on arrival at Changi Buoy. Coupled with very busy commercial traffic, the first 20 minutes of the race proved to be tricky and challenging for the participants.

First off the start and the sole representative for the Multihulls was Bula. Apart from having to duck an outbound vessel after CAAS 2, it was smooth sailing for her and the crew, enjoying the off-the-wind conditions between Pulau Ubin and Pulau Tekong.

Trailing behind were the 3 boats from the IRC Class, consisting of Adona, Minx and Jong Dee. Minx led for the first third of the race, only to have Adona claw her way back to overtake and position herself on top of the fleet. The fierce dutch rivalry between the X347 and J29 developed into a nail-biting finish on the final stretch to the finish line – resulting in Minx edging ahead to claim line honours and a win on corrected time.

In the PY Class, Brio returned to her winning ways, thriving in the prevailing conditions, making light work of the course. She eased into first place a comfortable 15 minutes ahead of closest rival, Remington on corrected time. Birregurra slipped into 3rd just 38 seconds ahead of Jock.

Thank you everyone for joining us – I look forward to inviting everyone back for Twilight Racing on 2nd September. In the meantime, good luck and fair winds for the next 2 weekends.
