Youth Sailing: Back-to-Back Events

21st September 2026/in Competitive Racing, Monthly Dinghy Race, Sailing, Social/by CSC

Two weekends, one action-packed sailing weekend!

Our Youth Sailing team enjoyed an exciting back-to-back weekend of sailing, with a Night Sailing 2.0 followed by the Monthly Dinghy Race on 19 & 20 September.

The Night Sailing provided our young sailors with a unique opportunity to experience sailing after sunset. Sailors of all ages showed up on Saturday evening to join this year’s night sailing event equipped with lights, decorations and strong will to win the best lit/dressed up boat this year. It was fun to see boats glowing in the dark at CSC, with members cheering the participants and giving all the support. A unique experience truly enjoyed by all the participants. With 15 boats took part in this event, top 3 best lit up boats goes to Elouan in his cool Optimist with eco-friendly bow sprit set up, Erline and Damien on a Pacer-parents of Elouan on a simple with classy lights decoration and Afiya with the entire gang of Optimist sailors on a “Christmas” inspired Pacer boat caught the judges attention of their cuteness and creative creation.

After the night sail, parents on land welcome back the sailors with good BBQ food ready to eat and music playing at the boat park area, good time to catch up for parents and kids. A big thank you to all the coaches, parent-volunteers and sailors for making this event a success! It was a memorable for everyone involved.

Monthly Dinghy Race, after an eventful evening, dinghy race is next! A total of 24 boats (ILCA, Pacer & Optimist) took part this month’s dinghy race. A small but yet competitive racing amongst our youth sailors. The day started with heavy downpour which discouraged the participants doubting that the wind may not come after the showers.

However, this wasn’t  a reason for our parent-volunteers on board race committee boat to give a try, it was worth it. Easterly breeze filled in at the race course area and with occasional wind shifts, race carried on. The Race Committee managed to secure 3 races for all classes, a short but better than nothing races. A valuable racing experience under the tight-time and weather conditions.

Congratulations to the Winners

Optimist Alpha: 1st- George Wittington / 2nd – Chloe Pitsilis / 3rd – Arun Behl

Optimist Bravo: 1st – Neel Behl / 2nd – Amelie Pitisilis / 3rd – Sumire Kogut

Optimist Charlie: 1st – Oliver Tumoula / 2nd – Nathaniel Go / 3rd – Anna Zhao

ILCA 4: 1st – Amandine Pitsilis / 2nd – Isaiah Yap / 3rd – Jonathan Kwok

Open Dinghy: 1st – Isaiah Yap / Amandine Pitsilis / 3rd – Jonathan Kwok

The event was successfully completed with enthusiastic participation positive engagement from our sailing community. This combination, provided sailors with an enjoyable and contributed positively to our youth sailing programme. Thank you all for making this event a success!

To the next Night Sailing and MDR on 18th October. See you!

CSC Sunday Series II 2026 – Race 5 (Finale)

21st September 2026/in Competitive Racing, Sailing, Sunday Series/by CSC

Sunday Series II Finale: A Dramatic Finish

A heavy downpour just before the start of the fifth and final race of the Sunday Series II was a little unnerving for the Race Officer, who at one point even considered postponing the start due to poor visibility. Thankfully, the team held their nerve and proceeded to start the race promptly, sending sailors onto a Pennant 4 course.

Keelboat participation was a stark contrast to Saturday’s line-up, with just three boats represented in the Keelboat PY Class and a pair of boats in the Keelboat IRC Class, making five keelboats on the water. Despite the smaller fleets, competition was no less intense, as teams brought their A-game to the course, a necessity in the flukey conditions that ensued.

In the IRC Class, we welcomed the return of Minx to Sunday Series racing, with the X342 going head-to-head against recently crowned RSYC champions Bound To Please. Despite taking comfortable line honours and even overtaking one of the Multihulls along the way, Bound To Please could not build enough of a lead over Minx. Skipper Lucas and crew therefore claimed their first Sunday Series victory in months on corrected time.

Colin and the team’s second-place finish was enough to secure the top spot in the overall series, with Bound To Please being the only IRC Keelboat to complete three races in the series. With many of our IRC skippers away during this period and expected to return next month, we hope to see a rejuvenated IRC fleet for the final Club Series, starting in October!

The Keelboat PY Class was represented by Taranau, Waka Tere and Jock, with the fleet finishing in the same order on handicap as they did in the overall series.

With Taranau’s IRC rating currently being processed and potentially ready by the end of this week, we may soon see the boat making the move up to the Keelboat IRC Class for the next series.

Jock’s performance left a little to be desired, but the crew were all smiles at the finish. Their perseverance eventually paid off as they picked up a new easterly breeze towards the end and managed to complete the race. Sometimes, simply making it to the finish is a victory in itself!

Leaving spectators on the edge of their seats, the Multihulls provided some excellent entertainment at the finish line. Just when it looked like Bula had the race in the bag, Kaze launched a surprise overtaking manoeuvre along the final stretch, successfully applying the pressure and denying Bula the chance to score their first bullet of the series.

Kaze’s strong finish made up for a mediocre start, but her absence from the first three races of the series left her outside overall podium contention. Bula’s second-place finish yesterday was nevertheless enough to secure the Series II title with 9 points, just one point ahead of Dot Dot Dot. Miss Visayan’s third-place result secured the remaining spot on the overall podium.

Congratulations to all our winners and participants!

It has been a very satisfying series, with the wind gods delivering unusually steady breeze for this time of year. We can only hope they continue to be kind to us next weekend, as we gather on 26 September for CSC’s 90th Anniversary Celebrations to mark this important milestone in the Club’s history.

See you all then — and hopefully, with a little less rain at the start!

CSC Twilight Series II 2026 – Race 5 (Finale)

20th September 2026/in Competitive Racing, Regattas, Sailing, Twilight Series/by CSC

What a way to kickstart the weekend!

On 19 September, the Twilight Series II Finale was not the only event happening at Changi Sailing Club. Members could also look forward to Members Night later in the evening, as well as an exciting Night Sail for our dinghy sailors, which concluded with a BBQ potluck for all.

A total of 16 boats took to the start line, with the Race Committee opting for a red-flag course that took sailors towards Changi Buoy after the start. A light outgoing tide helped the fleet clear the first leg swiftly, but with the breeze fading on the second leg, the Race Committee was faced with the difficult decision of shortening the course for the keelboats.

The four Multihulls that sailed the full course continued to thrive in the lighter air, with Kaze successfully defending her lead from a capable trio of competitors. Of the remaining three boats, Bula and Miss Visayan finished second and third respectively, with Bula going on to secure the overall series win and Miss Visayan finishing second overall. Despite missing the final two races of the series, Dot Dot Dot had done enough in the earlier races to secure third overall.

In the IRC Keelboat Class, it was great to see Koru back in action. She took an extended break after the RSYC Regatta in July, getting some much-needed TLC before returning to Club racing yesterday. The J/29 raced against Simba and comfortably finished ahead of the Dehler 39. Simba may have lost the race on the day, but her superb performances and strong attendance throughout the earlier races had already sealed her victory in the overall series.

We saved the largest fleet for last. An impressive 10 boats participated in Race 5 for the Keelboat PY Class, while a staggering 18 boats took part across the overall series.

Consistency is the key to victory, and Jock’s steady podium finishes in four of the five races earned her the top spot in the series standings after one discard. Bouncing back from a DSQ last week, Jock returned to the podium with a third-place finish yesterday, behind Waka Tere and Boreas.

The Club’s Platu 25, skippered by MJ, continued to improve with every race. After finishing third last week, she went one better yesterday to take second place, completing the series with 14 points and securing a well-deserved third overall.

Meanwhile, Waka Tere’s back-to-back bullets in Races 4 and 5 consolidated the Nelson 10’s strong showing and secured second overall.

With racing wrapped up, sailors returned to a packed Ubin Lounge for prize giving, whisky tasting and Members Night, rounding off an entertaining Twilight Series II.

Congratulations to all our winners and participants!

And just like that, our attention turns to today’s Sunday Series II Finale. See you on the water!

CSC Twilight Series II 2026 – Race 4

14th September 2026/in Competitive Racing, Regattas, Sailing, Twilight Series/by CSC

With the IRC and Beach Catamaran Classes sitting this one out, race organisers were bracing themselves for a potentially smaller fleet for Race 4 of the Twilight Series II. Fortunately, the PY Keelboats and Multihulls turned up in healthy numbers, putting 11 boats on the start line and ensuring there was still plenty of opportunity for sailors to make trouble for one another.

The breeze was a brisk south-easterly, but the course served up the usual Changi Sailing Club special: patchy, shifty and gusty conditions that kept everyone guessing and occasionally wondering whether the wind had any idea where it was going.

In the PY Keelboat Class, Waka Tere led for almost the entire race, leaving the rest of the fleet to scrap over the remaining podium places. Kurt and Gill sailed a strong race and, at times, appeared to be in a completely different weather system from the rest of the fleet, steadily building a comfortable and seemingly insurmountable lead.

The battle for second and third was considerably less settled. Boreas, Jock, Sirocco and Slingshot remained within sight of one another for much of the race, with positions changing as the breeze shifted and the boats hunted for the best pressure.

Unfortunately for Jock, a costly failure to complete her penalty after touching CSC 1 proved decisive, taking her out of podium contention. Meanwhile, the smaller boats eventually prevailed. Skipper Luke, making his maiden race appearance at the helm of Sirocco, and his team were still getting to grips with the nuances of the boat — doing their best to pull away from Slingshot while simultaneously trying to reel in Boreas.

In the end, the GK24 Slingshot claimed 2nd on corrected time, with the Club Charter Platu Boreas taking a close 3rd.

The Multihull Class was every bit as competitive, with all four teams taking turns at the front of the fleet. Oojoo sailed superbly to establish an early lead after rounding Squance, only to be subsequently hunted down and overtaken as the battle intensified.

The two Corsair 750s eventually emerged ahead of the Corsair 28, with Kaze clinching the bullet by just one minute from Bula. Miss Visayan crossed the line another minute behind Bula, making for an extremely tight 1-2-3 finish.

Congratulations to all our winners and, of course, to everyone who made it out onto the water and survived another evening of Changi’s finest breeze.

See below for Saturday’s results and the overall series standings to date.

With the Twilight Series II and Sunday Series II Finales both coming up next weekend, there is still plenty to play for. See you all on the water!

CSC Sunday Series II 2026 – Race 4

7th September 2026/in Competitive Racing, Regattas, Sailing, Sunday Series/by CSC

The haze is back. Amidst the smoggy and uncomfortable weather, sailors took to the start line for the penultimate race of the Sunday Series II. Thankfully, a steady South-Easterly breeze kept the fleet moving consistently around the Pennant 4 course, making for a swift race that saw all participants safely back ashore before 5pm.

It was not without its challenges, of course. Changi Sailing Club’s notoriously shifty winds made for plenty of excitement, and at times, unpredictable racing.

In the PY Keelboat Class, an exciting tussle unfolded between the two Platu 25s, Taranau and Notus, with the pair taking turns to overtake each other through several wind shifts. It was a close contest between Will Kerr’s four-man team and Wonn Kye’s five. While Taranau pipped Notus across the finish line, it was Wonn Kye and team who ultimately claimed the win on corrected time.

Joining the two Platus on the podium was Jock, who quietly sailed her own race further back in the fleet, only to sneak into third place on corrected time.

Leading the fleet and taking line honours was not quite enough for Adona in her latest outing. Skipper Ad Smit sailed his newly acquired Dehler 38 in the Sunday Series for the very first time, and boy, does she have potential. Powered by an eclectic mix of the Adona and Skybird crews, the Dehler 38 successfully and smoothly flew her spinnaker for the first time in many years. Though she finished just outside the podium after handicap correction, her performance certainly bodes well for future races, where she is slated to compete in the IRC Class.

In the Multihull Class, we welcomed back Kaze, sailed by the French duo Xavier and Damien. Despite having been away from the racing scene since the beginning of the year, she looked as though she had never left.

A close contest between Kaze and Miss Visayan ensued, but the 750 eventually established a lead which she successfully defended all the way to Squance and back to the finish line. Bula put in a solid effort as well, but while it was not enough to catch the leaders, it was sufficient to secure her a well-earned third place.

Congratulations to all the winners!
