Monthly Dinghy Race (26 October)

27th October 2025/in Sailing, Competitive Racing, Monthly Dinghy Race, Regattas, Social/by CSC

Chance for new winners in this month’s dinghy race!

This month’s dinghy race promises to be an exciting opportunity for emerging sailors to make their mark. With a few of the club’s top sailors sitting this one out, this month’s race is the perfect chance for others to grab a podium spot.

The monthly series has traditionally been dominated by a handful of strong sailors, but their absence this time around is expected to level the playing field. Newcomers and mid-fleet racers tested their skills and able to secure their first podium finish. It’s great to see different sailors step up. These races give everyone valuable experience and keep the competition lively.

Spectators from Changi Beach were lucky to watch closely how racing is done, unpredictable wind shifts and gusts, current flowing like a river and plenty of friendly rivalry on the water. Whether the wind is light or strong, this month’s event is set to showcase the depth of talent across the fleet.

In the ILCA fleet, first time racing, Charles Kong dominated the results winning, a double 1st place for ILCA4 and Open Division. A promising performance from this young sailor, moving up on a bigger and challenging ILCA equipped with his Optimist knowledge.

Brothers Arun and Neel Behl took the top podium finish in the Optimist fleet (Alpha & Charlie). With a back-to-back bullet finish from Neel, this will definitely help him to improve his results and a promising top podium in the leaderboard. The rest of their mates are for sure getting ready for the final race! It will be an exciting finale!

We would like to give thanks to our parents support for always making time to help us out on water and on land. This month’s Officer of the Day (OD) Matthew Kong, onboard with other parents: Daniel, Yvonne and Shahrom together with their youngest son, Ishmail, while their 3 children are racing in different classes. What a great Sunday afternoon to enjoy with family out at sea.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Twilight Series III 2025 – Race 2

26th October 2025/in Competitive Racing, Regattas, Sailing, Twilight Series/by CSC

Another Day in Paradise

After a relaxing Deepavali long weekend cruise to Tanjung Piayu, sailors returned to club racing on 25th October for Twilight Series III, Race 2. Conditions looked promising at the start, with a strong westerly breeze blowing along the straits. However, a strong current made the beat to Squance a tactical challenge for the fleet of 12.

With the 24th Ambassadors’ Cup just around the corner, many teams took this final opportunity to fine-tune their boats and crew work ahead of one of CSC’s signature annual events.

PY Class

A healthy turnout of seven boats delighted the race organisers. Waka Tere and IMP took an early lead, heading towards Ubin to escape the current and stay in stronger wind pressure. Most of the fleet followed suit, though a few opted for an early split in hopes of closing the gap through alternative tactics.

As the wind lightened and the current remained strong, the race committee decided to shorten the course after one loop, ensuring all boats could finish within the 2.5-hour window.

Once the numbers were crunched, it was a close finish — Sapphire Star edged out Birregurra by just 50 seconds on corrected time. Skybird completed the podium in third place, narrowly ahead of IMP in fourth.

IRC Class

Simba made a welcome return to the racecourse after a long break — refreshed, refitted, and just in time for the Ambassadors’ Cup. Taking things easy on the course, she nevertheless couldn’t stop reigning AC champions Jong Dee from sailing to another convincing victory. The J35 will see regular skipper Paul back at the helm next week to defend her title at the 2025 edition of the event.

Multihull Class

Three boats — Miss Visayan, Bula, and Dot Dot Dot — represented the Multihull fleet. Skipper David Steel returned from a well-earned break in Batam and marked Dot Dot Dot’s comeback with a strong start, taking the early lead on the downwind leg to Changi Buoy.

Her rivals quickly closed the gap, with Miss Visayan surging ahead on the second leg to secure the win, followed closely behind by Bula  in second place.

Looking Ahead

Congratulations to all winners and participants! With the 24th Ambassadors’ Cup just a week away, anticipation is building for an exciting weekend of racing and camaraderie. We look forward to welcoming ambassadors and senior diplomats from over 25 countries, together with a fleet of nearly 40 boats, as we celebrate “Bringing the World Together” on 1st November 2025.

See you on the water! 🌊⛵

Sunday Series III 2025 – Race 2

13th October 2025/in Competitive Racing, Regattas, Sailing, Sunday Series/by CSC

All classes were evenly represented in Race 2 of the Sunday Series III, with three teams each making up a competitive fleet of nine. Sailors were treated to ideal racing conditions — a fresh westerly breeze combined with a strong outgoing tide — setting the stage for a thrilling and technical challenge around the Pennant 5 course.

The Multihull Class saw a nail-biting contest between Kaze, Miss Visayan, and Bula. The three Corsairs were neck-and-neck throughout the race, crossing amas with barely seconds between them. In the end, Kaze held her nerve and fended off a strong challenge to secure back-to-back victories in the series. Miss Visayan crossed the line just moments later to claim second, while Bula’s determined effort sadly went unrewarded this time around.

Spear-heading the Keelboat PY Class was Waka Tere – who was in a league of her own on Sunday, mastering the conditions to dominate both line honours and corrected time. The crew of four looked right at home in the brisk breeze, building a substantial lead over rivals Birregurra and Jock. The Hanse 415 (Birregurra) took second, evidently thriving in the stronger wind. While Jock missed out on a podium finish, her crew no doubt enjoyed the exhilarating sailing conditions the day had to offer.

Three different J-series yachts battled it out in the IRC Class, and it was the mid-sized Adona that emerged victorious. With nearly a full crew complement onboard, she made quick work of the Serangoon/Squance course and finished well ahead of Jong Dee and Jellico. It was great to see skipper Paul back at the helm of the J35 after missing recent races due to travel. Meanwhile, Cedric’s Jellico — sailing with only one regular crew member — put in an admirable performance to round off the podium. A stellar effort by the J24 team!

Congratulations to all participants and podium finishers!

We now take a short break as some of us head off on a cruise to Nongsa Point Marina and Tanjung Piayu over the Deepavali long weekend. Wishing safe travels and fair winds to those making the journey.

See you all back on the water for Race 2 of the Twilight Series III on 25 October!

Twilight Series III 2025 – Race 1

5th October 2025/in Competitive Racing, Regattas, Sailing, Twilight Series/by CSC

We welcomed back the familiar Twilight routine on 4 October, marking the first race of the third and final instalment for 2025. Supported by a light, patchy, and gusty south-southwesterly breeze, the conditions were just enough to send all 11 teams at least once around Squance and Changi. As the winds waned toward the later stages, race organisers eventually shortened the course for all classes.

In the IRC Class, Jong Dee and Shardana returned to spar – this time in the absence of their Sunday Series rivals Adona and Jellico. The Dufour 34 had triumphed over the J35 in last week’s Sunday Series III Race 1 but struggled to maintain the same form during this Twilight outing. Jose and team sailed Jong Dee skillfully to stay ahead of the fleet from start to finish, securing a comfortable victory on corrected time.

A fleet of six competed for honours in the PY Class – Birregurra, First Light, IMP, Jock, Skybird, and Waka Tere. The lighter boats held the advantage in the soft breeze, and IMP certainly impressed on the course. Despite eventually being overtaken by the accomplished Waka Tere, IMP had done enough to finish just two minutes behind the Nelson 10 and claim her first bullet for the series! Completing the podium was the venerable Edwin at the helm of Skybird, with a healthy mix of experience and youth onboard. Special mention to First Light and her solo effort, finishing just 10 minutes shy of the time limit – a great display of perseverance!

A trio of trimarans represented the Multihull Class, with Kaze quick to establish a lead over Miss Visayan and Bula. With Damien and Xavier working in perfect rhythm, the Dash 750 made light work of the course, navigating the gusts and shifts beautifully to claim a decisive win. The battle for second was closely fought, with Miss Visayan managing to hold off Bula to secure the runner-up position.

Back at the bar, post-presentation entertainment featured a beautifully lit fleet of dinghies along our shoreline – as our dinghy sailors celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with a colourful, LED-decorated night sail! It was a fitting close to a pleasant evening on the water.

Thank you all for joining us, and see you next week for Race 2 of the Sunday Series III!

CSC Night Sail (4 October)

5th October 2025/in Cruising/by CSC

Sailing Under the Bright Moon: A Night to Remember at Changi Sailing Club!

As the full moon rose to its peak, sailors, members and families of Changi Sailing Club gathered for a unique celebration — a night sail to celebrate the Autumn Mooncake Festival.

For many, it was their first time navigating under the stars, sailors decorated their boats with parents helping them, great support to showcase their best dressed up boat. Adorned with bright lights drifted out into the open water, their reflections dancing alongside the moonlight. The pontoon, usually quiet in the day, transformed into bright and glowing in the dark.

As night fell deeper, the moon, said to be at its brightest and fullest of the year, seemed to follow every vessel — a silent companion watching over the small flotilla. Laughter echoed across the water, children laughing and sharing stories how fun to have this experience for the first time. It was all good comments and already asking for the next one.

As the boats slowly returned to the shore, hearts were full, and the moon still shone high. The sailors were welcomed with great taste barbeque food and drinks which prepared by kind hearted parents and families.
The first night sail to mark the Mooncake Festival had left an impression — not just as a seasonal event, but as a new tradition in the making.

We would like to thanks all sailors that joined us on water, the parents support whether on water or on land, the best sailing community! The CSC staff for ensuring everyone’s safety on water, our General Manager, Choy Yi Hong for allowing us to execute this memorable event for kids and adults. Mr Ad Smit, CSC Social Secretary for giving out the prizes for “Best Dressed Up” boats – Sumire Kogut, Petri Tuomola & family and Ellouan and Louella Gay, great job guys!

Once again, thank you everyone! It was a success!

Next event, Sailing Expedition to Coney Island!
