CSC Twilight Series II 2026 – Race 2

19th July 2026/in Competitive Racing, Regattas, Sailing, Twilight Series/by CSC

Faced with overcast skies and diminishing visibility to the east, sailors lining up for the second race of the Twilight Series II braced themselves for what looked set to be a wet and dramatic evening on the water. Setting off towards Changi against a strengthening outgoing tide, all 11 boats made quick work of the opening beat. However, progress slowed considerably as the fleet encountered strong currents enroute to Squance. Fortunately, there was enough breeze to carry the multihulls around the full course, while race organisers took the prudent decision to shorten the course for the keelboats.

In the Multihull Class, Dot Dot Dot and Bula were finally joined by a third competitor as Miss Visayan returned to racing after an extended repair and maintenance hiatus. The Corsair proved immediately competitive, matching Bula stride for stride all the way to the finish. Emerging victorious, Gary and his crew were all smiles back at the bar, capping off a successful return to racing. Both boats will be joined by Sirius Swift and Oojoo at next week’s RSYC Regatta, giving Changi Sailing Club a full representation in the Multihull Class.

The Keelboat PY fleet saw seven boats on the start line, with more than half the fleet measuring 25 feet or less. In the gusty and patchy conditions, the lighter, more nimble boats excelled, staying within striking distance of their larger rivals before prevailing on corrected time. Taking top honours was the 23-foot Jeanneau Fun, Marut. Having been absent from racing for some time, her victory came as a pleasant surprise for Gui and Yanjia. Marut edged out Jock by just one minute, with Nadine and the JockStars recovering impressively from a poor start to secure second place. Completing the podium was Boreas, with MJ and crew delivering a much-improved performance over their Twilight Series debut. Joined by new CSC member Donna, the four-person team found excellent rhythm on the course to claim third.

Although once again the sole entrant in the IRC Class, Atul and his family looked completely at home aboard Simba. While competition is always exciting, they reminded us that some of the greatest satisfaction in sailing comes simply from being out on the water together.

Back ashore, sailors gathered for the prize presentation, followed by the Club’s very first Members’ Night held on a Saturday evening. The turnout was extremely encouraging, and the event was warmly received by members. Serenaded by singer Deborah Jean Lee, the Ubin Lounge came alive as sailors, families and friends celebrated another enjoyable evening of racing together.

We wish all CSC teams the very best at the upcoming RSYC Regatta and Western Circuit Sailing Regatta. Safe sailing, fair winds, and we’ll see everyone back on the starting line when racing resumes on 23 August.

CSC Sunday Series II 2026 – Race 2

13th July 2026/in Competitive Racing, Regattas, Sailing, Sunday Series/by CSC

Sunday Series II Race 2 got off to a dramatic start, with all 11 boats being chased by a westerly squall sweeping through the East Johor Straits. Sailors were once again sent on a Pennant 4 course, taking the fleet on a journey to Tekong Buoy and back. While the breeze was not as consistent as last week’s Twilight Series, there was more than enough wind to ensure every boat completed the race.

Doubling down on her incredible start to the season, Taranau cemented her place at the top of the PY Class with another commanding performance. Staying with the leading pack throughout the race, the Platu sailed confidently to claim victory on corrected time. Two bullets from two races—certainly the Platu to watch in 2026!

The largest boat in the fleet, Remington, returned to the podium in emphatic fashion. The S&S 42 relished the stronger breeze, sailing well to her handicap to secure second place. Completing the podium was Skybird. After narrowly missing out with a fourth-place finish in Race 1, the Dehler 34 went one better this week, collecting three valuable points to total seven points after two races.

The IRC Class once again saw Koru, Bound To Please, and Forever Young crossing swords. With two 29-footers and a 28-footer, the racing almost resembled a one-design fleet. Koru made it two bullets from two races, leaving Bound To Please to settle for second. Fresh from her overall victory at the recent Tioman Regatta, Forever Young once again found herself hampered by crew arriving late, resulting in a delayed start and a deficit she was unable to recover from.

The Multihull Class saw Dot Dot Dot and Bula reverse last week’s finishing order. The larger of the two trimarans claimed a well-deserved victory with newcomer Sophie taking the helm. Demonstrating nerves of steel and excellent seamanship, the crew aboard Dot Dot Dot remained calm and composed through the squall, emerging from the storm with a comfortable lead over their friendly rivals. They held their advantage all the way to the finish to secure first place.

Congratulations to all our winners!

Next week, we return for Twilight Series II – Race 2. We also look forward to welcoming everyone back ashore for our first Members’ Night on a Saturday, featuring live music and great camaraderie after racing.

First warning signal is at 1555hrs. We look forward to seeing everyone on the water!

CSC Twilight Series II 2026 – Race 1

5th July 2026/in Competitive Racing, Regattas, Sailing, Twilight Series/by CSC

A steady 12-knot easterly in July? Almost unheard of! The pleasant surprise set the stage for a fantastic start to Twilight Series II, with sailors enjoying a breezy jaunt along the East Johor Straits. The conditions made light work of the course, with every participating yacht completing the full race in good time.

The Keelboat PY Fleet featured a strong and closely matched lineup, developing into an exciting contest between three 30-ish footers. Excellent starts from Waka Tere and Skybird set the tone for the battle for line honours, with the latter making full use of the fresh breeze to establish a lead on the second leg and carry it all the way to the finish.

Close behind was Sapphire Star, making a welcome return to club racing under the helm of Simon Connor. Sailing two-up aboard the Olsen 34, the team handled the occasionally gusty conditions with confidence and remained within striking distance of the leaders throughout. On corrected time, Skybird claimed the win, followed by Sapphire Star in second.

Rounding out the podium was a lean and efficient Jockstars crew, sailing with just three onboard. Despite giving away both size and speed to the larger boats, they kept themselves firmly in contention and were rewarded with a well-deserved third place on corrected time.

The remaining fleets may have been smaller in numbers, but they were no less enjoyable to watch. In the absence of Miss Visayan, the friendly rivalry between Bula and Dot Dot Dot resumed, with the smaller boat taking the honours this time around. It was a true family effort aboard Bula, as Mike and daughter Skye combined seamlessly to secure a comfortable victory in the Multihull Fleet and get their series off to the perfect start.

The IRC Fleet also showcased a family affair, represented by Simba, skippered by Atul and crewed by his family. Despite a lengthy break from club racing, the team looked right at home on the water, and it was great to see plenty of smiles all round.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a wonderful evening of racing. Congratulations to all our winners, and we look forward to seeing you back on the start line for Sunday Series II, Race 2, next weekend. See you on the water!
