CSC Twilight Series II 2026 – Race 1

A steady 12-knot easterly in July? Almost unheard of! The pleasant surprise set the stage for a fantastic start to Twilight Series II, with sailors enjoying a breezy jaunt along the East Johor Straits. The conditions made light work of the course, with every participating yacht completing the full race in good time.

The Keelboat PY Fleet featured a strong and closely matched lineup, developing into an exciting contest between three 30-ish footers. Excellent starts from Waka Tere and Skybird set the tone for the battle for line honours, with the latter making full use of the fresh breeze to establish a lead on the second leg and carry it all the way to the finish.

Close behind was Sapphire Star, making a welcome return to club racing under the helm of Simon Connor. Sailing two-up aboard the Olsen 34, the team handled the occasionally gusty conditions with confidence and remained within striking distance of the leaders throughout. On corrected time, Skybird claimed the win, followed by Sapphire Star in second.

Rounding out the podium was a lean and efficient Jockstars crew, sailing with just three onboard. Despite giving away both size and speed to the larger boats, they kept themselves firmly in contention and were rewarded with a well-deserved third place on corrected time.

The remaining fleets may have been smaller in numbers, but they were no less enjoyable to watch. In the absence of Miss Visayan, the friendly rivalry between Bula and Dot Dot Dot resumed, with the smaller boat taking the honours this time around. It was a true family effort aboard Bula, as Mike and daughter Skye combined seamlessly to secure a comfortable victory in the Multihull Fleet and get their series off to the perfect start.

The IRC Fleet also showcased a family affair, represented by Simba, skippered by Atul and crewed by his family. Despite a lengthy break from club racing, the team looked right at home on the water, and it was great to see plenty of smiles all round.
